Overview

Enigma (Southern Arcana, #6) by Moira Rogers

Anna Lenoir has always fought. First to escape a broken childhood, then to prove a female shapeshifter can stand shoulder to shoulder with the men. Now she fights for money, and her reputation is as legendary as her stone-cold heart. She’s never met a man she couldn’t walk away from.

Until him.

Bounty hunter Patrick McNamara has a scary reputation of his own, along with mysterious powers linked to his many tattoos. On the clock, they’re the perfect supernatural-crime-solving team. After hours, she’s ready to rock his world. But Patrick won’t settle for just her body, and Anna’s better at breaking homes than making them.

When the heir to the Southwest council goes missing, their combined skills are the best chance of averting a territory war. But the hunt will drag them through the most vulnerable parts of their broken pasts. Daring to risk her heart might be the first fight she loses, and the stakes have never been higher.

Because Patrick will sacrifice anything for her. Even his life.

I've got all of Moira Rogers books and I hate to say it but this time I'm disappointed. Ladies, if this were the first of your books I'd read, well, I sure wouldn't buy another. The dialogue, whether inner dialogue or between characters, was so vague and disjointed most of the time I was clueless as too what was being said. It had been too long since books 1-5 to remember what had happened and to know what was happening in this book without more backstory. Overall, this book just made me sad. I expected better.

I've read a couple of other books in this series (but not all of them) and enjoyed them. This isn't one of those books. *The story for this book is VERY heavily built on knowing the history of these characters. If you haven't read them all in the series then don't get this one!* All that being said, I thought the lead characters were whiney and annoying. It felt like the author never really finished a thought and you had to intuit what the character was thinking/feeling/doing all the time. Some of this could be attributed to me not knowing the full back story, but not all of it. This made it frustrating and unenjoyable since I kept having to go back to see if I missed something that would explain what the heck was going on. It was a complete chore to finish this story, but I paid $8.00 and felt like I had to finish it. I'm feeling like the couple of books I read and enjoyed are an anomly because this wasn't anything like them. I won't be reading this book again and will be very leary of reading anything else from this author/series again.

Reviewed by Guest Reviewer/Jessica & posted at Under the Covers Book Blog Enigma is the 6th installment in the Southern Arcana series.  It starts off with Anna Lenoir doing what she does best, cleaning up messes that can’t be exposed.  But while she’s finishing her hunt, she runs into Patrick McNamara, one of the best bounty hunters the super natural world has seen, and the only man to steal her heart. It doesn’t matter how much time goes by, when Patrick sees Anna again it takes everything in him not to pounce on her and give her what she needs; a nice, long, hard………. Reality check!  But as hard as they try to avoid one another in hopes of forgetting what they once shared, the world they live in once again calls on Anna and Patrick to help solve a very serious problem. My only warning to you all is: Make sure you read these books in order.  I made the mistake of reading this book first and I was a bit lost.  Past characters and stories were brought up and I found myself kind of annoyed I hadn’t read the others, mainly because their stories seemed so interesting.  But if you don’t think about it so much you end up enjoying a really good book and reading some really steamy sessions.  Like broken lamps, fallen picture frames and cracked dry wall type steamy. Enigma is not your typical PNR story where one character is broken and lost while the other has their crap together and eventually helps the lost one to mend the pieces of their broken heart.  Nope, not in this one.  Anna and Patrick are equally effed up.  It’s no wonder they are destined to be together in a happily, hot mess, ever after bliss. Full of doubting hearts, self-hatred, sexy motel scenes and great one liners, Anna and Patrick are one of the best teams I’ve encountered.  No matter the situation, they’ve got each other’s back.  Period. *ARC provided by author

Because Patrick will sacrifice anything for her... even his life! Review: I love this series!  And what an exciting story for Anna and Patrick! The story really kept me on the edge of my seat, it was an action packed story from beginning to end.  Now, the whole book is not just action, we have to main characters; Anna and Patrick who really have had a crappy life growing up.  These two tormented people really deserved their happy ending.  I wanted to smack Anna a couple of times when she kept shoving Patrick away, I mean I understand her trust issues, but after his initial bulking he wants Anna to be with him forever....I mean he gives his life for Anna.  I enjoyed the twists and turns of the story and the mystery behind trying to find out who and why the shape shifters were disappearing and being killed.  The skinwalker aspect to the story was really great and I enjoyed that as the catalyst for the story.  Secondary characters were really great from Oscar, to the others we have met in previous books.  You cannot beat the Author's world building and hot, sexy love scenes! If you have not read Moira Rogers, you really, really should!!! 4 stars
