This is superbly written by Mr. Cose and touches on many things both true and relative. I would recommend this work for anyone wishing to advance their knowledge of the challenges that African Americans face daily.

This important book discusses the two separate stereotypes that cripple inner city young men -- the white stereotypical view of black men that sees them only as thugs to be feared and avoided, and the equally destructive stereotypical view held by black young men themselves that looks down on education, ambition and civility and that foolishly admires swagger, violence and crime. Thoughtful, eloquent and ultimately hopeful, it is a 'must read' for anyone interested in American society today.
