Meet the Author


Herbert Woodward Martin is Poet-In Residence at The University of Dayton where he teaches creative writing and African American Literature. His sixth volume of poetry The Log of the Vigilantewon the Edwin Mellen First Prize for poetry. This is his seventh volume to be published.

For more than a quarter century associated with the Dayton Poet Paul Laurence Dunbar, Martin has written and produced "Paul Laurence Dunbar: The Eyes of the Poet," and he has edited "In His Own Voice: The Dramatic and Other Uncollected Works of Paul Laurence Dunbar."

The author is the recipient of The Ohio Governor's Award, The Ohioana Award for Drama, an Ohio Arts Council Fellowship, and two Montgomery County Arts and Cultural District Fellowships.
