One cold, wintery night, Audrey saddled her favorite horse, Nighthawk, and rode away from the huge manor on the island and her tyrant uncle, the Duke of Winterset. Before she could get too far, she was captured and returned to her uncle, who continued to demean her. However, she returned to find someone else held hostage by her uncle in the new adventure story by author Alexandra Anderson, Escaping the Tyrant. The prisoner was the Duke of Matherburg's son, Dustin, who happened to be shipwrecked on the island with his father and was obtained by guards of the Duke of Winterset. Learning Dustin will be held hostage as part of her uncle's takeover of Dustin's father's kingdom, Audrey decided to plan another escape by horseback and bring Dustin along for the ride.
