I would rate this book an 8.5 out of 10. It covers a wide variety of topics such as how to use each essential oil, thorough guidelines on how to prepare essential oils and how to apply them topically and orally, etc etc etc! There was a lot of useful information and history about many of the essential oils. However some downfalls were the lack of pictures and small variety of oils. There were NO pictures at all, but luckily I know a little about essential oils so it was not completely horrible. Overall I’d give the book an A- .

This book could also be entitled: Essential Oils For Dummies. A very fast an efficient read for those in search of a quick study on various oils and aromatherapy. This is a naturalist’s look at the fauna and flora extracts, their history and uses. Categorized in easy to understand language and format, this book is as simple as it is effective. Highly recommend it. All will get a joy from its practicality.

Useful reference guide for treatment of ailments The best part of the book is the section dedicated to using essential oils for a variety of ailments. For instance, I knew that certain oils are good for a headache, but the book goes into detail about the mix and ratios of oils to use for specific types of headaches (cluster, tension, sinus). I’ll keep this in my medicine cabinet beside my oils as an everyday reference guide for treatment of flu, muscle aches, tooth pain and other ailments.

Not too long ago I had a rather unsightly and itchy rash on my face that seemed to defy any remedy I tried. Then my sister put me on to tea tree oil. I washed my skin with a soap made from tea tree oil and also applied a small amount of the oil afterwards. Almost instantaneously, I could feel results. It looked and felt better. That experience piqued my interest in herbal medicine as an alternative to costly and often ineffective prescriptions. I found this book, Essential Oils for Beginners, The Guide to Get Started with Essential Oils and Aromatherapy, to be an invaluable resource in learning more about how to use essential oils in my daily life.

This book is full of scientific and historical info, and teaches you the basics of essential oils before delving into recipes and medicinal uses. It’s pretty much all you need if you’re getting started in this world. What I didn’t like were the unfounded medicinal claims - just because something has been used in traditional medicine doesn’t mean it actually cures anything, so use common sense here. Love the natural cleaners, though.

Did you know that the best place to test new oils is on the soles of your feet because this is the least sensitive part of your body? I didn’t! This is one of the things you learn besides how to use oils as home remedies in this book! Some of the oil recipes published here make better cleansers than brand names AND they smell better!
