I was so pleased with the quality and variety of recipes in this cookbook. It truly represents the very best southern cooking traditions!
As a former Southern Gal now living in Southern California, I missed old school southern cooking, so you know that I love this book. This book had some great recipes that I love but also with healthier cooking tips. There are a wealth of seafood and vegetable recipes and meats including veal and lamb. The roast chicken with sage and Madeira pan gravy will be on our table later this week. I've made and enjoyed his Butterbean and Okra using frozen vegetables. There's a recipe for biscuits with instructions for rolling and folding the dough which should result in the high and light biscuits one sees in pictures. There's no stinting on yeast breads or desserts. I counted 7 pound cakes, each sounding better than the last. My standard Sour Cream Pound cake is there and there's a Bourbon Pound cake, a Chocolate one as well as a Blueberry Pound cake among them. This book is highly recommended. I’d also recommend that you buy a copy of Conquer Your Kitchen… The Hungry Chick Dieting Solution Cookbook Reference Guide from Chef Jai Scovers as well and its companion cookbook, Simple, Healthy & Delicious... which is on sale here on BN. Like another reviewer, I am also a fan of the original book, The Hungry Chick Dieting Solution. It helped my sister and I lose over 30 pounds. Conquer Your Kitchen is filled with over 100 kitchen secrets guaranteed to save you time and money. The charts for food storage are worth the costs of the book alone. Who knew that you should never defrost meat on a counter top? Where Chef Jai tells you to do it makes a lot of sense. With Simple, Healthy & Delicious is filled with delicious meal ideas and recipes, with a healthy twist, like Lemon Shallot Scallops, the Ham & Herb Cheese and the Pound Cake French Toast, which I am going to use the Blueberry Pound Cake Recipe from this book for. Buy both!
