Ethereal (Celestra Series Book 1) by Addison Moore

Sixteen year-old, Skyla Messenger is a dead girl walking.

When her newly remarried mother moves the family to Paragon Island, to a house that is rumored to be haunted, Skyla finds refuge in Logan Oliver, a boy who shares her unique ability to read minds.

Skyla discovers Logan holds the answers to the questions she's been looking for, but his reluctance to give her the knowledge she desires leaves her believing Logan has a few secrets of his own.

Skyla's bloodlines may just be connected to the most powerful angelic beings that roam the earth, and the more she knows, the more danger she seems to be in.

Suddenly an entire faction of earthbound angels want her dead, but Skyla is nowhere near done living-and she's not going down without a fight.
It's on.

I read a lot of paranormal fiction. Some are good, some are bad, this one was the worst. There's absolutely no plot, no character development, NO editing. Skyla is one dimensional with every guy falling for her for no apparent reason after knowing her for five minutes. There were mistakes in every paragraph: spelling, grammar, contradictions, misspelled words that made no sense, blank pages in mid paragraph. Just bad.

Everyone's gorgeous and perfect (sic). Skyla's immature, selfish and so self absorbed and unlikeable it's painful to read. She needs to be saved more times than Bella from Twilight. What drove me insane was the appalling grammar and the constant senseless switching back and forth "I like Gage. No, I like Logan. No, it's Gage. No, I think I like Logan more." Every five minutes she's in love with someone else, even though she doesn't know them, doesn't know anything about them, and probably never will since the characters are too flat to have any background or depth to them. I wish I had never bothered wasting my time with this.

I have never written a review but I had to review this book. I hated Skyla. She was so annoying and unlikeable with her constant whining and complaining. The plot lacked any cohesion and read like the author hurried to publish the first draft just to be done with it. Inane dialog and typos in almost each sentence. There's constant jumping around in actions like the author was bored with writing a scene, then she'd break it off abruptly and write about something else with no transition between the scenes.

Complete waste of time. Riddled with mistakes and made no sense.

The characters were one dimensional. The details and description were a bare minimum if any. The chapters are cut off for the sake of making it look like there's lots of them. The book jumps around which made me wonder whether the author cut out a few pages. The grammar was awful! I made the mistake to buy two more books and forced myself through them. The story drags on so the author can fill more books with a story that just turns in circles and isn't even strong enough for one book. Not worth it.

I am a huge fan of this entire series. I'll admit Ethereal falls a little flat as the first book. It was hard for me to get into the story, but I did find it interesting and decided to at least read the second book (Tremble). I am so thankful I did, because it is truly an original, creative storyline. Ethereal is about a teenage girl, Skyla Messenger, who moves with her family to an island called Paragon. As soon Skyla and her family pull into the driveway of their new home on Paragon, Brielle, the teenage next door neighbor, comes over to greet them. Skyla learns that Brielle's best friend, Chloe, used to live there. Skyla asks the obvious questions of why/where did Chloe move, only to find out that Chloe was murdered. Brielle drives Skyla into town to show her around and they wind up at the bowling alley. While there, Skyla meets Logan and Gage Oliver for the first time. Logan and Gage are cousins, both very attractive. Skyla and Logan soon discover that they share a very unique gift. Logan may have some answers about their ability, only he's very hesitant to share them with her. And, she also soon becomes aware that Gage is attracted to her as well, and neither cousin is afraid to fight the other for her. <> At this point in the story I felt things were just a little too convenient. I mean, come on, Skyla moves into a dead girl's house, somehow ends up in the dead girl's bedroom, starts dating dead girl's ex-boyfriend, becomes best friend's with dead girl's ex-best friend, the chance encounter with the Oliver boys, both boys want her, both boys are hot as sin...yeah. But, I decided to keep going (if for nothing else to find out what happened to Chloe). <> You don't get answers to many of the plentiful questions thrown at you in Ethereal. Read on, though, because we find out that nothing is as it seems on the island of Paragon, and most importantly, everything happens for a reason. I love the characters, Skyla in particular. I can't say that I relate very well with her, but that doesn't make her character any less awesome for me. All the character's histories are not laid out in this book, but the author does give us a good feel for them. This series is rife with secrets, so it is appropriate not to have a full characterization of all characters in Ethereal (I finished Expel, book 6, recently and I still don't know everything about everyone). Addison Moore has a wonderful, original writing style. I've never read anything like her books. Not only is the premise creative, but the way Moore puts things into words is different (and incredible). There are some errors in the books, but it was never enough to distract me from the story. Also, these books are not necessarily for the faint of heart: there's some violence (some of it graphic) and some really creepy stuff. There is also some bad language, and a few fairly steamy scenes. Oh my, I almost forgot to mention the HUGE cliffhanger endings Moore leaves us with in most of the books - love them! The books are not strictly for the YA audience; older readers will be able to lose themselves in this story as well (I'm 30 and I obviously love them). I highly recommend this book series. Did I purchase this book: Yes, $0.99 Would I read it again: Yes

I had a hard time finishing this one. Several times I gave up and forced myself to go back to it because I don't like to leave a book unfinished but it was a chore because I've never read anything so boring. The almost non existent plot copies a lot from other books with endless clichés and nothing new. If I want a summary of other books I can reread those!

I bought this thinking I'd get a paranormal romance with a remotely interesting high school girl. For seventy five per cent of the book all we get is boring chatter from a teen girl. There's absolutely no action. Finally, at the end, we get something that's just boring and certainly not enough to keep my interest and buy the next book in the series. Boring plot where nothing happens and spelling mistakes aplenty. Judging from the other comments it seems to be common with this author.

I had a very hard time reading this book and will not buy anymore. I had to stop and look up words and I still was able to understand what the author was trying to say. It's a really bad book and I don't think it was good enough to be published.

Ethereal is the first in the Celestra series and has produced a few offspring of it's own. Celestra is the name of the type of angel that the main character in the series is. There are several other types: Countenance, Noster, Deorsum and Levatio. The Celestra are the highest form of angels and the Counts (as they are referred to) hate them and are trying to eradicate them. The Counts are sort of like the Mafia of the Angel world. They don't want anything to come between them and power. Celestra will do that. But, I seem to be getting ahead of myself! Skyla is a junior in high school and has just moved to Paragon, Washington with her mother, sister, stepfather, stepsister and stepbrother. They have moved from Los Angeles after her father dies and her stepfather relocates for a job. She actually likes Paragon because the weather matches her moods - gray and depressing. She moves into the house of a recently deceased girl and begins to learn that her death wasn't normal. Skyla herself isn't normal; she can read peoples' minds just by touching them. After Skyla meets Logan and Gage Oliver, she learns that she is not the only one with mind-reading capabilities. Logan is a Celestra angel and Gage is a Levatio angel. Logan is the one that tells Skyla what she is because he can read minds too. Logan tries to tell her what he knows but most angels do not know the whole story about their world until they are 30 years old. But, there are a lot of things that Logan knows that he doesn't tell Skyla. This book is pretty fast paced and it's a fairly easy read, mainly because you don't want to stop reading. Addison Moore LOVES to end the books on a cliffhanger (frustrating!). So don't be surprised if you find yourself reading them one right after the other. OH! And she likes to put the first chapter of her OTHER books into the back to get you hooked onto those! I am warning you now: Read these at your own risk when you have time to immerse yourself in Skyla's world and the world of the angels. Addison Moore writes these stories in such a way that you will forsake all other books (and possibly your domestic and work duties as well!) to keep reading them. She knows how much I like these books and just laughs at me when I tell her she's killing me! I have read other angel series and this series is very different. This series seems to make the angels more human like and sometimes you forget they are angels because of that. It's not a downside or even a bad thing because you seem to connect with them more. I just finished book 2 (Tremble) and I cannot wait to start reading the next one (Burn). I will definitely be reading all of the books in this series and the spawns of this series as well as any other books that she has written. I like her writing style and the descriptive way that she writes. She also doesn't get too heavy into the teen angst so you have sections where there is just a series of whining and drivel. I like that. It makes the characters seem stronger. And I like me some strong characters!!

Not worth the time. Nothing special happened in the first ¾ . The dialogue was poor and lacking. Whole pages seem to be missing. The author needs a dictionary.

Why did I buy this book? Who knows. This book was a complete waste of money. Skyla was a selfish aggrivating complaining little girl. I could barely read half way through. I had to stop reading it. I just couldnt take it anymore. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY! I know i wish I didnt.

All I did was get the sample. Thank goodness I didnt waste .99 on this book. By the first couple of pages I could already tell I hated it. The main character is oberly dramatic and cares about nothing but herself. Do not even waste your time on this book.

If this is what modern teens are like then we are all in big trouble. When faced with new 'friends' in a strange place what is the first thing a girl should do? Of course, fall in love with them, get in their cars, go to strange rural locations... And all this before the boxes are fully moved in. This storyline has potential. Sadly it was left to rot, rather like Chloe.
