Dollycas’s Thoughts If you are a fan of the Miss Julia books you have already been introduced to Etta Mae Wiggins. If you have not had the pleasure this is a great book to start with. After that you will want to start from the beginning with Miss Julia Speaks Her Mind. Ann B. Ross writes in a way that engages you into this crazy story right away. Etta Mae sure get herself into zany predicaments. Her heart is in the right place but nothing for her is ever easy. Her dilemmas will have you chuckling and some will tug at your heart. Etta Mae is a strong sassy woman and I absolutely love her!!! The entire series is absolutely charming and full of wonderful characters. There is always a bit of mystery, a dash of romance, and a barrel full of humor. The dialogue has a true southern feel and the settings from the trailer court to high class homes of the upper crust of Abbotsville are delightfully described. I need to catch up with Miss Julia in Miss Julia Stirs Up Trouble and Miss Julia’s Marvelous Makeover and I will be doing that very soon. It is never a Worst Bad-Luck Day when you travel to Abbotsville courtesy of Ann B. Ross!

I was so disappointed in this book. I purchased it because I've been a fan and have all the other Miss Julia books. The book was a downer all the way, and when I finished the book I was so depressed. The character Etta Mae Wiggins is a loving, caring person who apparently hasn't learned anything about human nature in all her years, and I'm ready for Etta Mae to have some good luck for a change. I do not recommend this book.

I love Miss Julia and cannot wait for new books to come out, but this fails totally.

I loved this book. I think this is Ann Ross's best book to date. The fun side of both Etta Mae and Miss Julia comes out. Also, we are allowed to find out what Etta Mae really thought of Miss Julia in their early days. Charming and very funny. I hope that the sexy sheriff is in Etta Mae's future in a permanent way.

I love all of her books but this one by far has been her best. The problem was I couldn't put it down and kept reading. I finally finished at 4:00 am and I was dead tired the next day. It was well worth it. I hope she writes more books with Etta Mae as the main character. Must read book. You won't be disappointed!!!!!

The characters in author Ann B. Ross’s Miss Julia novels are memorable to say the least. They are zany, eclectic and likable, but most of all down-to-earth. Etta Mae Wiggins, a recurring characters in the series, is one such personality. She’s hard working with a heart of gold, but bad luck seems to be her constant companion. Fed up with her life and determined to do better for herself, Etta Mae comes up with a plan. Working as a home nurse for elderly Howard Connard Sr., Etta Mae sees a way to give the wealthy old man happiness in his final days and herself a proper place in Abbotsville society. As the couple plan their nuptials, Connard’s son and daughter-in-law have other plans to make sure no one but them gets the old man’s money. To add to Etta Mae’s problems, her first ex-husband Skip Taggert shows up making major promises, but bringing only trouble and heartache with him. Then there’s Deputy Bobby Lee Moser, her hunky former boyfriend, who still stirs excitement in her. As Etta Mae tries to make it to the altar for the third time, she has to overcome a number of twists and turns along the way. Her spitfire attitude keeps her on course, but life never turns out quite like Etta Mae plans. Once again the author has blended her Southern wit and charm with a fast pace story that will have you laughing and crying. While Miss Julia isn’t the focus of this story, she does make an appearance giving new readers an introduction to Etta Mae. The characters are engaging and the dialogue will have you in stitches. Etta Mae is a strong-willed woman who may be a bit impetuous, but only wants to be loved and respected. ETTA MAE’S WORST BAD-LUCK DAY is an entertaining, hilarious and lively adventure you don’t want to miss. The vivacious Etta Mae Wiggins makes a bad-luck day enjoyable in true Southern style.

By the time I got to the forth quarter of the book I was laughing so hard I was crying. I think I actually stood up and applauded. BUT: it seemed to drag along the way getting to that point with a lot of minutia and ho-hum, but the last part made the whole trip worth while. I'm still laughing to think about it.

I love Ms. Ross' writing!  I have laughed out loud alone or with some body, reading in bed, sitting in an airport, doctors office, my front porch..

As a super fan of the Miss Julia series, I had high expectations of this book and they were met and exceeded.  Etta Mae’s book is filled with all the humor, heart, and misadventure that has kept fans anxiously awaiting the next Miss J. book time after time.  I have always let Miss Julia color my opinion of Etta Mae, so of course I have come to understand her a bit and appreciate her more.  After reader he book,  I feel that we are good friends and I want so much for her.  I would be glad to see more books focused on her or more of a focus on her in the Miss Julia books.  Where ever Ann B. Ross decides to take us next, I will be there for the adventure. I won this book through the blog, Escape with Dollycas!

This is the first book by Ann B Ross that I have picked up to read and I cannot believe that I have not found this series before.  While not reading the others meant that I was not familiar with all the characters, I did not feel like I was lost or behind on the going ons in this series.    The author did a great job bringing the reader up to speed without dragging out the story with facts from past books.   Etta Mae and her friends had me laughing with tears throughout the entire story.    I know Etta Mae, I have visited her trailor, and I have hung out with her.   She was someone I could pictures and could see how her life was lived.    Although, not an easy life, she lived a real life and lived it with as much gusto as anyone possibly can.    I am absolutely positive that I will be going back and checking out the rest of the Miss Julia series.   If you are looking for a fun and easy read do not wait to pick this book up.
