It was a bit to slow for me, but this was the first book I have read about mermaids in along time. I recommended to my sister and she absolutely adores it. I would recommend ths series espcially if like me you are in between series. The plot was well written and easy to understand.

this is my first book i've read on mermaids and mermen, i must say i did enjoy the book. even though it's not long, the author did not miss out on the details. we learn about tatchi and fin's culture, what happens when you promise to people, and the characters are just great.

I love this book. The ending is a little anticlimactic, but other than that it is wonderful!

Let me first start by saying Brenda is a local author so she writes about locations that I know very well in this case it's Lake Tahoe (not Natatoria lol) and that's why I fall so deeply in love with her stories! I also haven't read a mermaid story since The Little Mermaid so I was very excited to read this. So Everblue takes place in two locations one on the surface and around Lake Tahoe and the other in a magical realm Natatoria both so different and vivid in their own ways. I could feel the chill off the lake and the snow still left around in the the spring setting of the book. I really could visualize the underground world as well. Onto the characters Ash is the MC and I loved everything about her she is a swimmer (so was I) so I could completely relate to her issues with nerves on race day. She is an amazing and loyal friend when Tatchi her best friend and Finn Tatch's brother and the boy she loves go missing she stops at nothing to find them. Tatchi is an adorable character I love the fight she has in her she wants to live her own life not the one dictated by the Mer's in Natatoria. On to Finn oh sighs whats there to know about Finn? He's a sexy blonde haired blue eyed merman who can even pull off wearing a kilt look sexy. He's also completely in love with Ash you can feel his passion for her burn right of the page! There's also a sexy baseball player named Callahan who stole my heart I absolutely love baseball players if you don't believe me ask my last two boyfriends lol (both baseball players). This story had me sucked in on page one and kept me up until 4a.m. reading I guarantee once you pick up this book you will not want to put it down!

I've read ALOT of books, and The first thing that ran through my mind about this book was the cover. Now I know about that saying 'Don't judge a book by its cover' But I really just could not help it on this one. The cover is Beautiful. It drew me in first thing. And the last E on the title is shaped like a merimaid tail, which is so creative! This book is a must read!! I dont wanna give anything away, but i was drawn to this book, could not stop turning the pages! I read it in about a hour and a half! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

Not super well developed details. Easy to guess what would happen next. Good idea for the book, but more for young readers.

I really liked the premise of this book. Merfolk are not your regular, go to, otherworldly beings for young adult fiction. It doesn't seem to have the regular love triangle trope either (at least not in book one; Callahan may come into play in book two). Our main female character, Ashlyn, is pretty interesting. Apparently she is well liked by her schoolmates and an asset to her high school swim team. So much so that she could get a scholarship for her swimming capabilities. She is 17. Our main male character, Finley, is just plain cool. He enjoys life and has a plan for his future. Of course, that goes slightly awry. He is just about to turn 18. The story is told from two points of view switching voice with each chapter. The chapters are headed with who is speaking (Fin, Ash) so it is pretty easy to flip back and forth. Plus the settings are so different you really can't mix them up. The merfolk here are more like those depicted in the Little Mermaid (or Beach Blanket Bingo) than Harry Potter. Very attractive, luring unsuspecting humans, etc. The mer king is not such a great guy and his son is worse. I LOVE the setting. Ashlyn and Finely live with their families on Lake Tahoe. My mom lives in Carson City so I have been to the lake several times and can picture it quite clearly. I was surprised at the open (but not super preachy) faith shown by Ashlyn's family. They go to church; gramma talks about angels and God's purpose for Ash; Ash mentions praying for Fin and his sister's (her best friend) safety when they disappear. It's cool. A slight twinge for some...readers who were upset in Twilight at the instant long-term relationship between Bella and Edward or the wolf imprinting may not be so keen on mer promising. However, the promising is a main feature in the merfolk part of the story. Finally, for those who read young adult fiction and are annoyed by all the absentee parenting or inattentive parents...try this series. Ashlyn's family (sister, mom, dad, and gramma) is supportive and fun and you get the sibling drama as well as a glimpse of mother-daughter conflict. Fin's parents are great. The family runs a boat charter service together. Mom wants the best for her kids and holds up well when dad is sent away. Dad's return is powerful and loving. A very enjoyable read. Now I have to find book two. I'm hoping the titles are not foreshadowing...I may not like the turn of events. Will keep you posted on that. Happy reading!

Reviewed by Janelle Fila for Readers' Favorite Everblue: Mer Tales #1 by Brenda Pandos is a young adult fantasy about the intersecting lives of humans and mermaids. Seventeen-year-old Ashlyn spends her time swimming with her best friend Tatiana, and crushing on Tatiana's twin brother Finley. Unbeknownst to Ashlyn, Finley and his family are keeping an ancient secret that they can't share with the humans that they hid among. When Tatiana, Finley, and her family suddenly disappear, it is up to Ashlyn to figure out what happened with their mysterious disappearance. But what she doesn't know is that her friends are deep underwater in Lake Tahoe. Finley's father is on a dangerous mission, which threatens to keep Finley underwater for a long time. But not if Ashlyn has anything to say about it. This is a really interesting young adult fantasy that gives readers an inside glimpse into mermaids and mermen. One of the cool things about this story is that it is told by two different narrators: Ash and Fin. This allows the reader to simultaneously know both sides of the story and experience what it feels like to be the girl stuck on land and the boy stuck under water. Both are very interesting and well-written characters. Ash was kind and caring, growing as a person throughout the novel. Fin was her opposite, headstrong and rash, but mellowed out by the end of the story. The two characters really complemented each other well and readers will love their interconnected stories.
