Candace Bristol has always been obsessed with comic books, but in a world where the nightly news often mirrors these inked stories, her dreams of becoming a real superhero could actually come true. After being rescued by members of the government's AdvaNced Genetic EvoLution (ANGEL) Project four years ago, getting recruited for this elite team is all she's wanted.

Now 18, she's finally reached her goal after years of study and physical training, but little could have prepared her for life as a genetic experiment. As though coming to terms with her new ability to manipulate water isn't tough enough, she never expected to be swept off her feet by one of her fellow recruits.

With genetic alteration, the threat of physical and mental instability hangs over every superhero like a shadow. When one of their own tumbles over the edge of madness, Candace will have to choose between protecting the world, and saving the one who holds her heart.

Every girl wants a comic book hero to look up to and wish to have their powers. What we get are an assortment of men with superpowers and women who look pretty in skintight clothes with lame powers. What Huchton does in her superhero series is give us a real kick-butt female with real superpowers. Huchton has diverse characters that look and act different and have unique personalities. Candace is a strong Alpha personality. She’s very curious, very go getter, very nothing gets in her way. She’s an open, up front person who does what she wants to do, says what she thinks, and doesn’t let anyone get her down. She is already a super hero inside. She sees the good in people and makes sure they don’t get away with their nonsense when they’re up to no good. Adrian is the unassuming librarian with the sexy baritone voice. There was something in his past that gives him a chip on his shoulder and he has trouble thinking he is worth the love and effort of others. Gabe is Candace’s older cousin and comic relief in the story. They continuously banter and at first Gabe tries to look out for her, but she is too independent and stubborn to let that fly. She would rather fall on her own, then be helped along. Jackson is the troubled bad boy with an attitude problem. Does he secretly have a thing for Candace? Not going to tell you! “I think he could possibly be motivated to work with others on a team. While he’s abrasive and not a little trying on my patience, I don’t think he’s unsympathetic to others and he knows not to cross certain boundaries. If he’s here at all, it’s because it was his choice, isn’t it?”) (Page 86). There’s also Ella, Candace’s friend and fellow trainee, True from the first wave of ANGELS, and Hector, etc. There was such a range of characters to get to know and love. I thought the raging hormones bit was overplayed, but it did add a sense of hilarity, brusqueness, and urgency to the ANGEL’s actions. The ending was so emotional and so devastating and left me itching for book two. Starla Huchton is a genius and a beautiful story-crafter and this series is a great one to read.

Freaking fantastic. I read this book in ONE DAY -- all grabby hands and holy crap is it really 2am?? -- and now I must feverishly stalk both this author and the Evolution series. For all readers who like a little sexy with their hero, this is the book for you. Fully endorse and recommend this book for readers 17+, for some steamy bow-chicka-wow-wow stuff.

What a crazy and heartbreaking ride! Evolution: ANGEL took me from the heights of euphoria to the depths of despair. My thoughts are still in a whirlwind. I had to decompress after finishing this book - so much happens but I also know so much has YET to happen. It's that intense of a read.  Candace is a firecracker. She's tough, goal driven, and becoming an ANGEL (AdvaNced Genetic EvoLution) is what she's wanted for the last four years - working and studying hard to get there. I really think she dreamed of becoming a superhero - even before she and her cousin were rescued by ANGELs - during all the years she's spent reading comics.  Adrian has to be every bookworm girl's dream. All he'd have to do for me is read out loud to me like he did for Candace, and I'd become putty in his hands. That's gotta be the sexiest thing I've read a guy doing. Plus, he's working in the library for the time being. AND Candace wins him over when she corrects her cousin's grammar, haha! What a man!  Jackson is the "bad boy" kind of superhero - there are a lot of layers to him that I didn't get to see in this first book and hope will be explored next time. Sparks fly between him and Candace - I could tell there was an attraction there that both worked very hard to deny.   That ending! I can't figure out if I dreamed it up or if it really happened. All I know is I couldn't breathe afterwards - I had to calm myself down just so I could sleep. I'm emotionally wrecked and desperate to find out what happens next. What to do in the meantime?!? I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Candace has loved the superheroes since she first heard of, let alone saw, them four years ago. She was a comic fan from before they even came up with a way to make superheroes. She wanted nothing more than to be one. She had the genetics, daughter to a twin. When Candace finally gets her letter she can't wait to become an ANGEL and do some good in the world. However, Candace never expected the side effects of the treatments...ramped up hormones. Candace pairs with one boy, a kind young man who sweeps her off her feet with reading to her. Yet, being a superhero isn't easy, when you have to make the tough decisions for the better of many. Even the second time through this book I was riveted with the story. Learning with Candace about her powers, each step of the way as the stakes grow with responsibility with a power this strong. Water. Who would have thought water ability could be this strong and powerful? Then the romance! Sexy superheroes! Ga! You don't get them this way. Super sexy men and woman. Fast action, humor, story, and love! All in one place! So much love for these characters! Candace is a strong girl. Strong morals and trying to be a good person in life along with a great superhero. I love Candace's relationship with her cousin Gabe. They are close, almost like brother and sister, and make me laugh. Aaah, then we have Adrian. Oh goodness, he loves books and reads to Candace. *sigh* Then we have my favorite, so kick me I'm a bad boy junkie with books, Jackson. Oh I love him and the tension and teasing he brings to the table. We go through the process of becoming a superhero with Candace. We feel the pain and much more through the words S.A. Huchton weaves together for us. Huchton takes superheroes to a new level, sexy and awesome. So many great elements all weaved together here in one place. The training and learning of her ability. Each time Candace uses her ability she ups the ante and stakes with the responsibility and control she needs to maintain. This story feels as it has a little bit of X-men and superheroes we love weaved with many more elements in Candace's story creating a smexy tale as well. In the end we start to see the ANGEL project isn't completely perfect as Candace had seen it when on the outside. There are little things here that lead us to question 'what if?'. And what of Candace? Now what? You will want more after this one. Huchton has added a bonus short at the end as well. One that will give you a little something to think on for the future. Maybe? ;) This creation was exactly what I wanted in a Superhero Romance. Love superheroes? Love quick action? Love Romance? YOU GOTTA READ THIS ONE!!!
