About the Author

Jamie Andrade is a Black biracial artist-educator in the greater Boston area. She holds a BFA from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design and a M.Ed. in Educational Leadership from Boston University. In 2017, she was recognized with the Massachusetts State Universities Educator Alumni Award, and she has continued working in Title I public schools since the early 2000s as an art instructor, school leader, and DEIB faculty. Jamie applied her passion of community organizing with the founding of the Makers Artist Collective, a group engaged in creative placemaking. In her spare time she spends her afternoons transforming her 18th century downtown property into an urban homestead, complete with a chicken coop, vegetable garden, and pollinator waystation.
