A few of Los Angeles' top jazz musicians plus guest singer Janis Siegel (who is on one-third of the selections) perform a variety of jazz standards plus bassist Darek Oles' "Expectation." Although the music looks forward, much of it is relaxed and thoughtful. The all-star rhythm section, which consists of organist Alan Pasqua, guitarist Larry Koonse, bassist Oles (who contributed the arrangements), and drummer Peter Erskine, is quite solid; Bob Sheppard contributes some heated tenor; and Siegel is always a strong asset. This package also includes a four-song 31-minute DVD that allows one to see as well as listen to "I Didn't Know What Time It Was," "Blue in Green," "This Is New," and Tadd Dameron's "Whatever Possessed Me" as well as hear the musicians talk about the background of this project and their longtime friendships. Recommended.
