Exploring Science Through Art

Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal - School Library Journal
In this ground-breaking attempt at making connections, Katz deals with a natural marriage of her subjects and provides a jumping-off point for teachers to take an interdisciplinary approach. She illustrates, in an introductory manner, the fact that both science and art require imaginative problem solving, observation, hypothesis, and conclusions. However, poor sequencing and uneven distribution of information weakens the organization and usefulness of this text; the ideas are not fleshed out in enough depth for children to complete them on their own. Beautiful well-captioned, full-color illustrations accompany each section. Teachers who have the patience to track down the information will find interesting, enjoyable art projects for their students; without adult explanation, children are unlikely to make the scientific connections. --Fran Powell, George G.
