Rachel Hoffman is a smart and talented economics journalist, but a lay-off forces her to take a job with a NYC gossip magazine to make ends meet. When she's assigned to spend a week with Leo Hanlon, the intensely private CEO of a private jet company, she assumes it will be just another run-of-the mill interview. The one thing she doesn't know: her boss has led the notoriously press-shy Leo to believe the resulting story will be a business profile, not a gossip article.
Leo Hanlon hates doing publicity, but with his company still reeling from a PR nightmare, he knows he can't afford to say no to what he believes is a write-up in a major economics magazine. As they jet from the high rises of Manhattan to the sandy beaches of a tropical island, Rachel and Leo realize the simple business agreement is developing into something far more complicated. They can't deny their mutual attraction, but similar past tragedies have left them both reluctant to share their hearts with anyone. Can they overcome their fears to find happiness together? Or will the discovery of someone else's lie tear them apart forever?

About the Author
As an undergraduate studying biology, Emma did a stint as a field assistant researching stream ecology in Venezuela, where she slept in a hammock in the woods, was awakened every morning by hooting howler monkeys, and was attacked by killer bees. She followed this up with another research stint in South Africa studying tuberculosis in cape buffalo, where she helped radio collar the buffalo from a helicopter, was chased by petulant teenage elephants, and was awakened by zebra "marking" her tent.
After graduation, Emma traded those adventures for a jungle of a different kind: the beast-eat-beast world of law school and DC law firms. She began writing full novels for the first time as a way to escape the stress of her legal studies, and continued to write while she worked in the legal field. She was completely hooked, but wasn't ready to believe she could turn her passion into a career. When her husband got a job in upstate New York, Emma took time off to raise their young daughter, and realized it was the perfect time to concentrate on writing. Here's to the start of a brand new adventure...

Pretty and intelligent journalist, Rachel is relegated to working for a tabloid magazine after being laid off from her old position with a reputable business magazine. When her boss assigns her to do a article on handsome, successful and enigmatic businessman, Leo, Rachel is nervous but also looking forward to doing an article with a bit more...substance. She shows up to their first brief meeting and finds out that her boss has led Leo to believe that Rachel still works for her old magazine. Rachel is torn on what to do. She really needs this job but she is uncomfortable interviewing him under false pretenses. She decides to tell him at their very next meeting....and that's where the real ride begins. The chemistry between Rachel and Leo is palpable after this and you feel yourself being pulled into the growing attraction and deepening relationship and also their inability to deny their feelings. The characters are nuanced and you see how their backgrounds have shaped them to be the complicated, guarded and driven people they have become. The story is set at a pretty galloping pace and you definitely feel swept up with it. I loved Emma Barron's last book (The Glass Orchid) because her main female character was strong, smart and funny and she has kept that up with Exposed. I loved that Rachel was so intelligent and driven but also had a good sense of humor and a good sense of herself. Leo had all the great manly qualities that I expect in my romance novel heroes but I liked that she added some background information on him (I won't spoil it) that made you understand his guarded nature and his intense drive to make his company so successful. The dialog between these two was sparkling and I really loved their interactions when they were on the island. She showed their silly and fun-loving sides and made them even more interesting as characters. There was so much to love in this book. Developed and intriguing main characters, a fast pace, a sultry and beautiful location for them to fall in love, witty dialog and character interactions, funny and engaging supporting characters and steamy and intense intimate scenes. I can't wait for the next installment in the "Tropical Nights" series!
