Couldn't put it down! Mr. Smith delivers yet another exciting third book In the Extinction Cycle series. The variants are learning and keeping our heroes on their toes. It kept me on the edge of my seat as Reed continues his fight with the variants while Kate works on developing a weapon to fight them. I cringed each time Reed left the island fearing for the worst. I don't understand how he manages to do what he does. I only hope someone like him is with me during the apocalypse! Some people got their just rewards spectacularly which was very satisfactory. We also lose some secondary characters which was sad but my favorites survived another round...but for how long. It will be interesting to see the final version of Kate's weapon and I wonder if it will leave yet another smaller subset of variants - super variants. I think this book is the calm before the storm and I can't wait to read the fourth book! I highly recommend Extinction Age along with all the other books by Mr. Smith!

He’s done it again! Each time I think there’s no way Nicholas Smith can outdo the previous story in his awesome series, he proves me wrong. As the Variants continue to evolve, little glimmers of hope for mankind dwindle. Of the three books I've read so far, this is certainly the darkest and most visceral. I was holding my breath, worried that he might kill off Fitz or Apollo. The author has an exceptional gift for storytelling combined with some of the strongest characterization I've ever read. Bravo!

The story telling is top notch. The way the characters get deeper and start to change is amazing and gives a tint of realism to them. Even when new characters are introduced you get a richness to the charactershaft that could easily get lost. The story from the beginning is like getting into a sports car and going full throttle and not letting up

The best in the series yet! I read this book in a day because I couldn't put it down. The beginning of this story is interesting because the main character, Beckham, was very different than the entire the series. It was daunting to see him not as solid as his norm but he eventually returned to his normal controlled definitive self. I was confused at first because I thought my main man was going down hill but there was reason behind his odd actions and decisions. There were so many different events the happened in this book, I'm not even sure where to begin. My anticipation was so high in this story because there were a lot more traumatic missions that happened and some new enemies. I am so impressed with Smith's writing, his ideas are so different and intriguing. I really admire how he can add so much detail, twists and turns to this apocalyptic military medical thriller. I wasn't expecting where the story went and that's my favorite aspect about reading any story. There are lots of surprises that will keep you wanting more. There is a new romance that is starting, getting to know some of the other characters more in depth, the evolving variants and of course the military tactics. I would highly recommend this book to anyone! It is a must read, I love it!! I can't wait for the next one!

Nicholas Sansbury Smith’s Extinction Age is another thrilling action packed ride as Beckham, Horn, and his crew are sent to reclaim New York City in Operation Liberty. Operation Liberty fails leaving most of Beckham’s team trapped in the dark sewers surrounded by deadly variants. There they discover what the variants do with their “food.” Returning to Plum Island, the safest place on earth right now, Beckham is sent to recover supplies from a wrecked naval destroyer – overrun with original variants. Dr. Kate Lovato’s head is spinning. Struggling against time, her and her team discovers a cure, otherwise known as the superman drug that can end all variants. The question is – who will get this cure? The human race has entered the extinction phase of their existence worldwide. Who is running Plum Island now and calling the shots? Who will be saved? Who will die? The variants are mutating and they are even deadlier now that there food supply is dwindling. Extinction Age is an action-packed non-stop adventure. Just when you thought it was safe … and Kate has a secret!! Exciting and well developed plot and characters keep the story line moving. Relationships are well thought out and plenty of those “you love to hate’em” types who get their just desserts! Bronson Pinchot does an excellent job performing. I love the seamless flow of dialogue between characters and narration. His voice is perfect with the right amount of inflection and delivery is perfect. There were no production issues.
