Overview

Extinction Edge by Nicholas Sansbury Smith

The second book in USA Today bestselling author Nicholas Sansbury Smith's propulsive post-apocalyptic series about one man's mission to save the world.

The dust from Dr. Kate Lovato's bioweapon has settled. Projections put death counts in the billions. Her weapon was supposed to be the endgame, but it turned a small percentage of those infected with the Hemorrhage Virus into something even worse.
Survivors call them Variants. Irreversible epigenetic changes have transformed them into predators unlike any the human race has ever seen. And they are evolving.
The fractured military plans Operation Liberty--a desperate mission designed to take back the cities and destroy the Variant threat. Master Sergeant Reed Beckham agrees to lead a strike team into New York City, but first he must return to Fort Bragg to search for the only family he has left.
As Operation Liberty draws closer, Kate warns Beckham that Team Ghost won't just face their deadliest adversary yet, they may be heading into a trap...
Humanity is on the edge of extinction... pick up the series that D. J. Molles said "delivers unrelenting, unmerciful action"before it's too late!

Enjoyed the first book so much just had to buy Edge. Filled with action, crazed creatures and the people praying to find a way to stop them. This book was just as hard to put down as the first one. Found myself still reading until early morning some days. In a world where its every man ( and woman ) for himself (or herself ) this group comes together again to fight the good fight and never give up. Was not disappointment and well worth only getting a few hours of sleep at night.

Oh man what a ride! Our story continues with the aftermath of deploying VariantX9H9, Dr. Lovato’s bioweapon. However the remaining Variants are changing and doing some pretty weird stuff. Of course we have the people in charge, the acting president and his general, not following Dr. Lovato’s advice. Do they EVER listen to the scientists???? The budding romance between Reed and Kate continues to grow but will his unwavering dedication to killing the Variants drive a wedge between them? We also get to see how people who have known and worked together in the old world behave toward each other in the new world when the going gets tough. I hope I would be one of the good guys in the end. There are close calls, tense moments, lots of running, creepy things and happy moments on this rollercoaster! A new character was introduced, Fitzpatrick, that quickly became a favorite. There’s something special about him and I guess you’ll just have to read the book to find out! Looking forward to more of him in Book III. What will Dr. Lovato’s next move be? Will she have to create her own monster? Just what are those damn Variants up to? Will the Variants die out or will humanity be confined to Plum Island for the rest of their lives? Inquiring minds want to know! I know I can’t wait for book III to find out!!!! If you have not read Extinction Horizon (Book I) then what are you waiting for and I hope a Variant gets you! Go get it now!

Brilliantly layered tension and suspense. l am seriously hooked on this series. The plot grabs you by the throat and doesn't let go...exchanging one catastrophic worldwide event for another. The author's character development is superb. Readers will love Beckham and Kate. 5+ Stars and highly recommended!

Once again and amazing book and the authors ability to bring you along side the characters and make you feel what they feel is simply amazing writing not to mention the variants the way they are described it is something out of a nightmare. The fast pace of the story is incredible a must read for anyone who loves the apocalyptic genre

Wow, it just gets better! This second installment in the series gripped me immediately and I just couldn't get loose; I was glued to the story until the end. Smith has a compelling way of telling his stories. The pace is well set in this book, the events and information were informed at the right moments where I just couldn't put this story down, I needed to know more. The suspense was even more captivating than the last book. I just never imagined that I would even like a story about mutated humans but this story is much more than just a zombie book, it's for anyone that wants an action packed mystery, suspenseful medical thriller & horror! The story is very well written, it fluidity is strong, the currents characters are well developed and the new ones are introduced seemingly. I would highly recommend this story to anyone, although I would suggest starting from the first book to get a better understanding of the disease and relationships of the characters. Now I'm on to the next book!
