Young and female, their stories are tucked away in the pages of scripture. Rhoda and Hagar; slaves. Bilhah and Zilpah; concubines. Rebekah and Aksah, young brides. Named and unnamed daughters of the wicked and of the faithful. Sisters connected by justice, by tragic vows, and by prophecy. Ezer Strong: Teen Women of the Bible searches for their presence and listens for their voices in the grand narrative of the Bible. As their stories unfold, their warrior strength will both surprise and encourage the contemporary reader who desires to hear the voice of God as spoken from the margins and the marginalized.

About the Author

JoAnn Streeter Shade has walked alongside many women in a variety of ministry settings for more than forty years, including the young teens of cabin five at Long Point Camp, the teenage girls from Dover, Philadelphia, Hough, Canton, and Ashland, and the many young women who were a part of the LINCS program in Canton and Ashland. She also enjoys writing about women from a historical perspective, as she did in Eliza and the Midwife: A Story of Human Trafficking; The Other Woman: Exploring the Story of Hagar; and WomenVoices: Speaking from the Gospels with Power.
She has served Salvation Army congregations and social service programs in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Ohio, and at North Coast Family Foundation, a Christian counseling center in Northeast Ohio. In semi-retirement, her goal is to write every day. She enjoys working with Doctor of Ministry students at Ashland Theological Seminary, midwifing new writers, and contributing a weekly column for the Ashland Times-Gazette.

She is married to Larry, is the mother of three adult sons, Greg, Drew and Dan, and enjoys the company of Lauren and Becky, two beloved daughters-in-law. She is also the smitten Nana to the lovely Madelyn Simone and the delightful Elizabeth Holiday. With a Master of Arts in Pastoral Counseling and a Doctor of Ministry in the Women in Prophetic Leadership track from Ashland Theological Seminary, she combines her academic training with a writer's eye, a pastor's heart, and a grandmother's joy through Gracednotes Ministries.
