Meet the Author

Amy Smart loved to play with her mom's sewing machine when she was small and first learned to quilt as a girl, but she didn't begin quilting in earnest until after her first baby arrived in 1999, when she needed an artistic outlet and yearned to accomplish something that stayed done.

She worked Saturdays in a local quilt shop for seven years. She taught beginning quilting classes and found that she loved watching other people fall in love with collecting fabric, cutting it up, and sewing it back together. In 2008 she started her now-popular blog, www.DiaryofaQuilter.com, documenting her creations and sewing adventures. Amy thoroughly enjoys participating in the online quilting community and continues to be inspired by the people she has met, both virtually and in real life.

Amy lives in Utah with her patient and encouraging husband and four busy children who fortunately think nothing of random piles of fabric or seam rippers placed strategically throughout the house. As a family they like to explore the outdoors together and laugh at silly Internet videos.

Fabulously Fast Quilts BY: Amy Smart PUBLISHED BY Martingale REVIEWED BY Barbara Rhoades The book begins with four pages of basic quilting techniques. Then you find three patterns of each quilting technique - strip piecing, quick corners, slick slicing and stack, slice and shuffle. While we all know what strip piecing, quick corners and stack, slice (whack) and shuffle, I had to figure out what slick slicing meant. It is simple a strata cut into a triangle and the triangles sewing into blocks or with a strip added between triangles. Each pattern begins with a photo of the quilt and a sentence or two about it. Then the materials and cutting lists are clearly written. There are graphics to help you along. And it is left up to you as to how to quilt it. There is a short bio about the author and now comes the challenge of deciding which quilt to make first!
