An interesting and relatable essay for anyone who's ever "taken the plunge" into something against popular opinion, or anyone who's thought about doing so. I couldn't tell if the couple of switches back and forth between past and present tense before the concluding segment were intentional or not, but that didn't hinder my enjoyment of the piece. Worth a read!
As I was reading this story, I thought of my mom. When she got older she decided to go gray despite everybody trying to convince her to dye her hair. She loves her gray hair and she doesn't care if it makes her look older. Going gray is something everybody has to deal with when they get older and Fade to Gray is a short, humorous story about the subject. After years of coloring her hair, the main character decides she's going to embrace her gray hair. However, a visit to the salon proves how hard and time consuming it is, and she decides to wait a little longer until she goes gray.
