What happens when Mistaken Identity clashes with Secret Identity?
From orphaned foster kid to biz wiz, Jacob has come a long way. Along with a dream job and a great mentor, he has finally fallen in love. Granted, she mistook him for a stalker when they met, but every relationship has its little problems. Unfortunately, for the past few years, as the object of his affection pops in and out of his life, she has refused to share any personal info, like where she’s from…or her real name. Regardless, Jacob is ready to take their relationship to the next level. Now, if only he can locate her so he can tell her.
Casey’s family is in the witness protection program. Any hint of trouble is their cue to vanish. Their cover has been blown before, so safety must be their only priority. A shy young man with hopeful eyes cannot possibly be added to the mix. Now, if only she can stop thinking about him.
Jacob’s world stumbles into Casey’s when he inadvertently helps hide her family. If their 24/7 vigilance does not prove to be enough, she will have to disappear. Again. But, this time Casey will be stealing away with Jacob’s heart, and his hopes of finally having a family of his own.
An attractive girl blocked Jacob’s path, her shiny brown ponytail jutting out of a baseball cap that shaded irate brown eyes. Very pretty, irate brown eyes. She emanated a lot of anger, and all of it at him. Jacob recoiled from the cute face barely flush with his chin.
“What the hell do you think you’re doing?” she barked again.
“What?” Confused, Jacob retreated a step from her hands-on-hips belligerence. To his dismay, she followed him, jabbing her finger into his chest.
“You people think you can do anything you want!”
Hoping to defuse the attention of passersby, he raised his palms in surrender. All the same, a small, curious crowd gathered around them. She remained in his path, blocking his way. He had to do something before he lost sight of William. He made a successful grab for her jabbing hand. A jolt slammed through him, quickening his pulse and making him aware of his suddenly dry mouth. He stared at her, his heart thumping in his chest. She stared back, her mouth forming a perfect O.
Four protective hefty types materialized around them. “Having some trouble, miss?” one of them rumbled.
Uh-oh. Jacob released her hand like a hot potato.
“I...” She wet her lips. “I think he’s stalking an elderly man.”
Later, he could consider her sweet concern, but at the moment, his priority was staving off the protective menace closing in. Fight, flight, or freeze? Fighting was out of the question. Any one of these guys could deck him with one swing.
“Stalking?” Jacob raised his palms again. “I’m not stalking anybody.” Flight? He tried to back away, but bumped into a living, breathing wall standing behind him. Whoa! He froze. How had things become so bizarre so fast?
“There you are, Jacob.” The familiar, quavering voice came from behind the girl. “Having a little problem?”
Relief flooded him.
“You know him?” She shot Jacob a reddened glance while she mumbled something of an apology.
Could she be any cuter?
William drew his brow “Of course I’m safe, my dear. Why wouldn’t I be?” He caught Jacob’s eye over her head, and they both shrugged. Apparently, he was as puzzled as Jacob.
“Oh, no.” She lifted her head and waved a hand. “I’m so sorry. This was a case of mistaken identity,” she confessed to anyone listening. “Totally my mistake. I thought...Y’know what? It doesn’t matter.“
“So, everything’s in order here?” rumbled the wall behind Jacob.
“Yes, everything’s in order here,” Jacob snapped at a man four times his size, his bravado prompted by the convenient adrenalin rush provided by the encounter.
“Yes, everything’s in order here,” repeated William in a level tone. “And thank you.”
The crowd lost interest, leaving Jacob with a calm William, a red-faced girl, and an unusual thumping somewhere in the vicinity of his chest.

Jacob's life hasn't been easy. He's had to struggle for a very long time. One day that changes when an older man takes him under his wing and gives him a job. One of Jacob's duties is to accompany his mentor to fairs in the area. The older man explained how he loved going to the fair and had actually met his wife at one. Jacob believes there is a deeper story about the fairs and he may be right. This love story is an amazing tale of bravery, love and loyalty. The writing is superb and the characters lovable. Ms. Davis gives us a unique story in this book. I found it engaging and sweet. You'll be amaze by the depth of love contained in this book. You'll enjoy, as I did, the fun events throughout. I think this one should be in your TBR pile. I found no issues. I gave this one 5 cheers out of 5 because it touched my heart. ~Copy of book provided by author and I voluntarily reviewed it.
FAIRLY SAFE ***** FIVE STARS Review By E.D. Bird BOOK TITLE: FAIRLY SAFE AUTHOR: DEBORAH ANN DAVIS LANGUAGE: ENGLISH PDF FORMAT I was sent a PDF copy of this novel by the author with a request for a review, which I happily agreed to do. While ‘Romance’ has never, and still does not form part of my ‘preferred genres’, I found this book to be most entertaining. It wasn’t just a love story; it contained a great deal of mystery and intrigue which kept the pages turning. In addition, it had a twist in the tail, an entirely unexpected ending. I would recommend this novel to all who enjoy a good mystery, with romance and love thrown in for good measure. FIVE STARS ***** REVIEW BY E.D. BIRD www.edbirdbooks.com
Deborah Ann Davis' "Fairly Safe" is the second tale in the Love of Fairs series, but you can read it as a standalone. I loved the idea behind the story. The Kissing Booth could easily have been like a light-hearted X-Files episode. Just a great little story. Sweet love at its best! Loved how the story connected and reconnected over the years.
This is the second book in a series which has me totally engaged with this author. She writes a story for young adults, but I swear, I loved it and I’m nearing 70! The author engages on many fronts. Her story telling doesn’t let the cat out of the bag. I could not foresee how the story challenges would be resolved. This read has suspense, a bit of romance, lots of complicated budding relationships, a tad bit paranormal and so beautiful in the telling, I had a hard time believing this author has only just started publishing. It’s delightfully crafted with wonderfully well-rounded and intriguing characters from the stodgy Mr. Hanson, to the well-meaning with the best of intentions–Don, William, and Jacob, to the most adorable, little Robin. Themes within the story—family is important, search for what you want, love if meant to be, will be, follow what is right and life will take you down the right path. It’s not easy getting inside of the minds of children, let alone these children who spend their time training, an unusual endeavor taken seriously, but the author does an excellent job shaping Casey, Sam and Robin. ***** Jacob Kent works as a chauffeur for Lenny’s Livery. William an elderly man comes in to rent a limo, only to find he is usurped by another hot-looking client who is quickly contracted by the branch manager, Clayton Neville, for the only limo left in the shop . Clayton is described as sniveling, fawning and an opportunist. Jacob feels bad, because William was at the shop before the hot-chick came in. To right a wrong, both he and Rita agree to help the gentleman out. The scene that follows is very telling about Jacob’s character. Jacob tries to make his boss understand that the elder gentleman was first. Clayton, irritated beyond reason, fires Jacob and nearly fires Rita. Rita offers her car, Jacob offers his services to William. The customer must be satisfied. Without a job, Jacob drives to Springfield, on the way to a fair, The Big E. This is where Jacob’s life takes an altogether different path by simply being at the right place and the right time—The Gypsy Kissing Booth. I’m Fairly Certain you will love this story, and I feel Fairly Safe to tell you, if you start this series, you will read it all. A great cast to give you hours of entertainment!
Fairly Safe is the second book in the Love of Fairs Series. Having not read the first book I was a little apprehensive about diving straight into book 2, unsure whether I would fully understand what was going on, however I had no problems with starting in the middle of the series. The book opens in 1938 and then jumps 60 years to 1998, where we meet Jacob and Casey. The two main characters are well-rounded individuals, each with their own problematic backstory. Jacob being brought up in an orphanage, and Casey being in witness protection along with her family. They are truly remarkable young people and Deborah Ann Davis has done a wonderful job in keeping them both very realistic, as well as likeable. Alongside Jacob and Casey there are a host of secondary characters, including William who is in the opening section in 1938, now an old man. These secondary characters for me are what makes this book. Without them, the story would never have worked. There is a lot of laughter surrounded by plenty of emotional scenes, and scenes that may just have you on the edge of your seat. The story merges mystery with suspense, and with a hint of thriller thrown in, creates a roller-coaster that keeps you glued to the pages. If you are after something a bit different that will play with your emotions, yet keep you gripped to the pages with the ‘what happens next’, then this is the book for you.
