Welcome to the second book in the FaithWeaver( Children's Messages series! These are not your everyday, ordinary children's messages. Instead of having children sit and passively listen to what amounts to an abbreviated version of an adult sermon, these messages engage kids, surprise them, and draw them into spiritual growth. Your children will not only have fun, but will walk away with a deeper understanding of how Bible stories apply to their lives.
Each message in FaithWeaver Children's Messages 2 explores one Bible story, helping children to experience what happened to the people in the story. These experiences lead children to understand a Bible verse that contains a core biblical truth. For example, children will wrap themselves in towels as "caterpillars" and emerge as "butterflies" to learn, as Saul did on the road to Damascus, that people who believe in Jesus are new creations. This kind of active learning makes sense to children and therefore cements biblical truths in their hearts.
All of your children will look forward to hearing the children's message every week. The messages appeal to children from preschool age through elementary school age. Be sure to attend to the special needs of younger students during your children's message time, and encourage older students to help younger ones with the activities. You can also involve your congregation members, who will be refreshed by new perspectives from these messages-and from the children! You may use a microphone or repeat what children say, hold up props so congregation members can experience the stories as kids do, and even encourage your congregation to cheer or sing along with the kids. TheseBible-based children's messages will touch both children's and adult's lives.
We've arranged FaithWeaver Children's Messages 2 to parallel the four quarters (fall, winter, spring, summer) that most churches use for Sunday school and other educational programs. The book contains four sections of thirteen sermons-one sermon a week for an entire year. The fall quarter begins with the Israelites crossing the Red Sea and follows them as they travel to the Promised Land. For the winter and spring quarters, we cover the New Testament stories of Jesus' birth, life, death, and resurrection so children can focus on Christ during Christmas and Easter. Then the summer quarter returns to the Old Testament and the adventures of Bible heroes such as Gideon, Ruth, and David.
Use the messages in the order suggested here, rearrange them to coincide with holidays or events, or choose Bible stories and verses that fit your own themes. The Bible stories listed in the table of contents and the Scripture index will help you choose the Bible stories and Scriptures you want to teach.
You can also use this book in conjunction with Group's FaithWeaver( curriculum for Fall 2000 through Summer 2001, which you can order from your local Christian bookstore. Using FaithWeaver Children's Messages 2 along with this family ministry curriculum helps you reinforce Bible stories and verses in a way that cements Bible truths in kids' lives.
