4.5 stars Keep a freezer handy for this one, dear readers. Because Jared Cade will have you twitterpated in no time. And so will this book. Amberley’s struggle is completely relatable – her world as she knows it is upended when she gets a devastating diagnosis. We too know our best laid plans can change in an instant, and the way we thought life would turn out suddenly is no longer an option. Her range of emotions and even her brief depression are feelings we understand and sympathize with. (Her back-and-forth introspection got a bit old for me but I also get it) And then there’s swoonlicious Jared (who, sadly, most of us don’t have nearby lol). Best friends for years, he and Amberley are maybe on the cusp of exploring something more when she suddenly shuts him out. That does not sit well with him, and getting that inside scoop on his emotions is particularly yummy. Especially when it surprises him. Expect growled declarations and some smokin’ hot kisses, y’all. I’m still drooling. It’s not all swoons and kisses though. Along with Amberley’s battle in losing her eyesight, there are some other emotional & heart-tugging subplots. The children who Amberley and Harley start working with – children with a range of disabilities – were adorable and sweet and I dare you to read about little Emily and Harley without tearing up even a little. And Jared may be wrestling with Amberley’s new challenges and his newly-discovered feelings for her, but he’s also wrestling with unmet expectations of his own. He and Amberley both are striving to be the heroes their respective fathers wanted them to be, and while that takes different forms in their own individual paths the emotions connected to any perceived failure are very similar. The way their definitions of ‘hero’ evolve as the book progresses is authentic and heartfelt. (I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book)

Persistence and bravery for the win! With the next book in her Rocky Mountain Cowboys series, Karen Rock brings us the story of a young lady who thought she had it all until a devastating medical condition arose that she felt ended all of her hopes and dreams. Love and support of family and the best friend a gal could have rallies around her and sets out to show her that life doesn't end just because you are now faced with more challenges. It's uplifting and inspirational to anyone who has ever felt less than. A well-built plot with many familiar characters. The storyline drug a bit in the beginning as a lot of inner thoughts were being portrayed rather than dialogue, but overall an enjoyable, uplifting read! Champion barrel racer Amberley James has the world on a string ... or so it seems when everything is going her way and she can see the possibility of making all of her dreams come true being in reach ... and then it all comes crashing down around her. She knew she had been having some weird things going on with her eyesight, but she was never expecting the doctor to tell her that she had a genetic disorder that was making her go blind! Her life is over. She can't possibly ever do anything she loved again. Rancher and football star Jared Cade has been best friends with Amberley for years. They push each other to be the best that they can be, they offer support throughout life's ups and downs, and they always cheer each other on from the sideline. He knows something's going on with her, but she's kept him in the dark as to what it is ... until it can't be hidden any longer. Jared is devastated for her naturally, but he refuses to stand by and watch her hide herself away from the world in shame and give up the dreams she's worked so hard for! He'll do anything he has to in order to get her out there dreaming big again.

This is a feel good, heart warming story. The therapy ranch for children with special needs and disabilities was awesome. Some of my favorite parts of the book took place there. I loved the message of the book of not letting those disabilities limit you can still reach your dreams. Also reading best friends Jared and Amberley grow even closer was beautiful. I would highly recommend this one because you have the feel good story, but also the story of two feuding families going on is also intriguing.

This was a great, heartwarming story of 2 best friends that fall in love. Amberley had always been a barrel racer & had felt pressured to be the best by her late father. However, she thought her dream would end when she went legally blind due to a genetic disorder. Her best friend Jared Cade wants to be there for her, to help her while he is dealing with being sidelined from playing professional football due to an injury. The more time they spend together the more they realize they are more than friends. This is the 2nd book in the Rocky Mountain Cowboy series but can be read as a stand alone book.

Rating: 4.5/5 This is one heck of an inspirational read - don’t let anything others look on as a disability deter you from striving to achieve your goals! Amberley James is a barrel racer who has a rare genetic condition which is taking her sight. You can’t be blind and barrel race - or can you? Amberley’s best friend, Jared Cade, is stubborn and won’t let her give in. Despite her reticence, he encourages her not to give up, helping her develop strategies that, with his help, enable her to get back on her horse to give it a go. . . . Can she learn to overcome her blindness to compete again? Can he also win her heart? This is definitely one of my favourite reads. It is an emotional roller coaster, filled with despair, hope, tragedy, love and so much more. Death bed promises have a long lasting impact and true love just has to be fought for to enable a HEA to be attained. This is a real page turner with plenty of different threads being skilfully interwoven to create a beautiful, heart-breaking and heart-warming story that will live on in my imagination. The author brings the characters and settings vividly to life in the imagination of the reader in this moving story which I have no hesitation in highly recommending to anyone who enjoys cowboy romances or stories of overcoming adversity. I can’t wait to read more in this series or by this author! I requested and received a copy of this novel, via NetGalley. This is my honest review after choosing to read it.

This was a very touching story. Amberly is a champion barrel racer, who is going blind. Jared is her childhood friend and an NFL player with an injured knee. They are both super competitive, and want nothing less than to be number one, but their physical limitations put them - and their feelings - to the test. I loved Amberly and Jared. They were both such great characters. Jared had his flaws, he wanted to help but didn't seem to understand the difference between helping and babying. But by the end of the book he certainly learned a lot about himself, life, and what success really is. Amberly's character put me through the emotional wringer....to have something out of your control taking away your dreams, and your independence and freedoms, is something I wouldn't wish on anyone. But this character handled it very realistically - anger, depression, sadness, it wasn't like she just accepted her fate without fighting it along the way. But the way she fought it, and fought for herself, was really inspirational. She is someone I would love to know in real life.

Falling for a Cowboy is a beautiful and heartwarming friends to lovers romance. The romance between Amberley and Jared was great to see, they’ve been best friends for so long and know each other so well and I liked seeing them slowly grow even closer. I liked both characters, but I did get annoyed at times at Jared. But then on the other hand there are some great scenes with these touching gestures and how he is there for Amberley and how her blindness doesn’t change how he feels about her. I did really like Amberley and seeing how she adapted to being blind. I didn’t really care for their competitiveness, but I did like seeing them both change over the course of the book and realize that winning wasn’t all that’s important. While it’s a romance, it’s also deals with a lot of other topics and plot lines and I liked how that enriched the plot. Overall this was another great book in this series and I am already looking forward to the next book!

FALLIING FOR A COWBOY by Karen Rock I would describe this book with one word – WOW! From the time I started reading, I didn’t want to put this book down. This book covers the story of Jared Cade and Amberley James. Both are carrying baggage placed upon them by their now deceased fathers. Jared’s Dad had told him that the family would need a hero after he passed. He was to be the glue that kept the family together. He had promised his Dad that he would be that hero. Amberley’s Father had told her “If you’re not first, you’re last and if you’re last, you’re not much.” Both Father’s put extreme pressure of them from the grave to live up to their expectations. Add to that pressure, Jared lost his contract with the pro-football Bronco team due a shoulder injury that had made him that hero. Amberley is suffering from a generic eye disease that has left her legally blind hindering her from achieving her goal of winning a place on the EPA Premier Touring team in barrel racing which made her feel like not much of anything. And then they find that their long time, deep friendship might be headed to a deeper level. Their struggle with their personal relationship as well as professional goals and other complications along the way make this book sizzle with both highs and lows emotionally that will have you smiling big or grabbing for the tissue box. It’s a struggle that will have you cheering for the underdog, wanting to slap them when they can’t seem to open their eyes along with the hearts to see what’s right in front of them, and loving the animals that seem to have more sense than they do at times. One paragraph in the book will stick with me a long time. It was referring to what the handicapped or those with disabilities really were. They were described as wounded warriors. Their battle is to not only survive but to thrive. They succeed by their own measures and accept themselves as they were designed. Flaws, injuries, illnesses represented badges of honor worn with pride. They marked you as someone who life tested, and individual facing constant challenges, a survivor who’d never quit fighting. I would highly recommend FALLING FOR A COWBOY and have to all my family, friends and anyone that wants a GREAT book to read. You will want more – going back to read the first book in the series – CHRISTMAS AT CADE RANCE and have you greatly anticipating the next book in the series. This book can definitely be read as a stand-alone book. It is from the Rocky Mountain Cowboy series about the Cade and Loveland families from Carbondale, Colorado.

Falling for a Cowboy by Karen Rock (Rocky Mountain Cowboys #2) Doesn't he get that she's blind? Barrel racer Amberley James wants to join the premier rodeo circuit more than anything, but she faces the ultimate hurdle when she loses her eyesight to a rare genetic condition. All she'd ever wanted seems out of reach.Giving up is the only option...until her best friend and local hero, Jared Cade steps in. The last thing she wants is Jared's help. But his persistence at encouraging her to get back in the saddle is ridiculously annoying. And undeniably inspiring... this is Amberley James and Jared Cade's story. “Here comes the champ!” bellowed a rodeo announcer over the Las Vegas Thomas and Mack Center’s PA system. “She won her second straight WPRA World Championship title right here last year. Can she do it again? Ladies and gents, this is the amazing Amberley James from Carbondale, Colorado.” her best friend and local hero, Jared Cade steps in. The last thing she wants is Jared's help. But his persistence at encouraging her to get back in the saddle is ridiculously annoying. Jared rolled his eyes at that. They were both extremely competitive. They’d been friends since they’d met on the rodeo circuit in middle school, trading achievements like some kids traded baseball cards, always keeping score. They shared a hard-work ethic and drive to be the best. Number one. He knew, like she did, that you only spoke about luck, you didn’t actually believe in it. Falling for a Cowboy (Rocky Mountain Cowboys #2)by Karen Rock is a wonderful well written 5 star book. I highly recommend reading. Karen Rock writes sigh worthy stories that will just melt your heart. This is a story of overcoming the fears and challenges associated with disabilities. Amberley is a champion barrel racer who loses most of her sight to a genetic disease and believes that her career along with her independence is over. Her bestfriend, Jared, shows her that anything is possible but he too must overcome his beliefs that Amberley is helpless without him. Everything has always come easy to Jared until his feelings for Amberley change from friendship to love. Their relationship is tested many times through out the story but it is an amazing journey and story. I received an ARC from the author but all thoughts and opinions are my own.

"Falling for a Cowboy" is a heartwarming romance that lives up to its category. We follow Amberley and Jared in alternating third person limited points-of-view (though most of the book is from Amberley's perspective). Amberley is a barrel racer (and a great one at that) who has lived up to her father's motto of "If you're not first, you're last." She is one of the best in the country- but her life is about to change. Although her eyesight has always been bad, it has recently been getting even worse. A visit to the doctor reveals that she has a rare genetic condition which is causing her to go slowly blind. Not being able to see means she won't be able to compete- and this is what gives her joy in life. Her doctor recommends a therapy group with horses for people with disabilities (mostly children). After consideration, she reluctantly begins to participate with her horse, Harley. Jared, Amberley's BFF, has just left the NFL due to an ACL tear which removed him from the starting line-up and essentially made him a bench-warmer and spurred an early retirement (he'd rather be at home than warming the bench for the NFL). Amberley and he have always been there to support each other, but now that he has found out about her diagnosis, she has insisted on pushing him away. At the same time, Jared finds that his feelings toward Amberley are not as friendly as he had suspected. Although he has always had plenty of dates, he's never found himself in love with anyone (lots of dates but no girlfriends). Now that he knows his feelings for Amberley are growing, he can't recognize the way he's feeling and isn't sure if he's in love with her or just loves her. To figure it out, he'll have to convince Amberley to let him get close to her again- and the horse therapy may be just the way to do it as he soon finds out they are in need of an instructor. Overall, this is a really heartwarming story about overcoming obstacles and reaching for your dreams, no matter what life throws at you. The friendship-turned-more romance between Jared and Amberley was lovely- it was great to see how much they supported each other and the start of something new. Although they hit a few hurdles, it was easy to cheer for them to get together and so exciting whenever they seemed close. Both were easy to like and it was a fantastic journey to follow. The side notes about horses and barrel racing were really interesting and added to the fun of the story. Some of my favorite side characters were the kids in the horse therapy group, who really have an effect not only on the main characters but on the reader also. I loved reading about them! This was a fast and enjoyable read- easy for an afternoon and perfect for a cozy winter read (snuggle up with a blanket and some cocoa for this winter release!). Although part of a series, this reads as a stand-alone. In terms of romance elements, as this is in the heartwarming category, you won't find more than steamy kisses. I highly recommend to anyone who is looking for a feel-good romance! Please note that I received a copy of the book from the author. All opinions are my own.
