Falling Free (Southerland Security, #1) by Evelyn Adams

Amanda Southerland has a job she loves and a solid relationship with a man who looks great on paper. If it all feels a little hollow, so what? She’s got nothing to complain about. Her life is running like clockwork. That is until she slides down the side of a mountain and crashes into the cocky gym rat who's exactly the kind of guy she avoids. He’s all muscle, no finesse, and if she can’t stop thinking about him, it’s just because he irritates her. Nothing more.

Michael Dean’s finally opened the gym of his dreams. He doesn’t have time for a relationship and he’s absolutely not looking for love - not until the beautiful rock climber practically falls into his lap. Meeting Amanda has reordered his priorities, even if she’s stubbornly racing toward a future with the wrong guy. She may not know that he’s her happily ever after, but he’s determined to make her fall again – right into his arms.

I enjoyed this first book in the new Southerland Security Series. Amanda is a total outdoor girl. Her particular specialty is rock climbing. Amanda is involved with Ethan, who is clearly wrong for her (and most other women IMHO). She meets Michael, a gym owner in her capacity as a rock climbing instructor. The story is told from both Amanda’s and Michael’s point of view. Normally I am not a big fan of this style of writing, but in this case I totally enjoyed it. Won’t give any spoilers, but I thoroughly enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the next book in the series.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book. I am a huge fan of the author and one of my fave series is the Soutehrlands. I mean serious love, I have read them over and over because I totally loved them. So when I say this know I love the author and I loved the previous series, but I did not love this book. I didn’t hate it but I did not love it and it mostly had to do with the plot not the characters and not the writing. For one thing this book is extremely centered on rock climbing. I have never had a desire to rock climb and well I think rock climbers are crazy. While I have read many books about subjects I would never do this book was extremely centered on the how to and the drills and while kudos to the author for knowing this, I felt it was way toooo much about a subject I had no interest in. Then there is the issue of the heroine Amanda. I liked her a lot.She is the cousin to the Southerland family and this series centers on her an her siblings. Who are NOT rock climbers. She is not only a climber but she is guide and teaches others. I really liked her siblings in this story. But her not so much. The reason I did not like her is thru most of the book 65%, she is dating this other guy. He is a total jerk. Beyond a jerk. He treats her terribly and everyone agrees from her family to even the hero in this story Michael. So why does she stay well because she has been with the jerk for months. But he hates her family and he breaks plans all the time. Then he really betrays her by going behind her back and hires this other guide to climb and then he falls and breaks his leg. Anyways I can go on but she stays with the guy, until he breaks plans for Taylor’s art exhibit. But she does it on the phone… Now let’s talk about the hero, Michael. Well he is the shining light in this story. He falls hard and fast for Taylor. He is a sweetheart and he treats her family very well. They have lots in common and enjoy each other. They are both very attracted but won’t do anything til Amanda is free. Anyways that’s my opinion of the book. I really really wanted to like the story. Its nothing like the previous series and if you like rock climbing you will probably love this story;
