An interesting account of one woman's journey through abuse, mental illness and healing. A story of hope and encouragement for others who need support and healing from abuse, addiction and illness. -Diamante Lavendar, award winning author of Breaking The Silence and Poetry and Ponderings
Domestic abuse is a grave ill that doesn’t spare any strata of society. Almost all of us have been touched by it either directly or indirectly. Women, even those who are highly educated and one would expect independent, are affected. A couple of my own colleagues--physicians like me have suffered, some for years. On the other hand, many women are unaware that help is available. I’ve seen women who are brought to the ER with telltale bruises and fractures but they provide excuses and are fearful of registering complaints against their abusers. To escape the abuse takes enormous effort and courage yet often the trauma continues afterwards and has lasting effects that can be disabling and interfere with rehabilitation. When you think you've made it across the bridge, you find there’s a mountain left to climb. In her memoir Falling Perfectly Without Trying Jenny Delos Santos writes of what starts as an innocent tale of love then transforms into an experience of unimaginable horror. She shares a deeply personal account of how she overcame domestic abuse and the deep scars it left behind. Her story is filled with incredible pain yet at the same time tremendous grit and hope that readers will find inspiration from. It touched my heart and so will it yours.
This is a true story about a young naive woman who fell in love with an Airborne Ranger. As the narrative unfolds, the reader learns how what appeared to begin as a perfect marriage slowly escalated into a nightmare of abuse. With the safety of their two young children her foremost concern, she must decide if fleeing the relationship to start over is the best option. While parts of this story read more like a fast-paced thriller, there was no need for the author to resort to dramatic tactics to relate her heartbreaking experiences. With openness and a desire to offer support to others who have been in an abusive relationship, Jenny lays out the facts without embellishment. "Falling Perfectly Without Trying" offers proof that even painful stories can have happy endings.
