Overview

False Pretenses by Tressie Lockwood

When Alyssa visits her cousin to ask for a loan to save her bookstore, she doesn't expect her cousin to say no, but she does. At her wits end, Alyssa jumps at the chance to do her cousin a favor in exchange for the money--pose as the girlfriend of her cousin's boss, billionaire Nathan Corde, for one glorious week in the Cayman Islands. Alyssa has always admired the view in the form of Nathan, but she never imagined getting so close to him since she's on a whole other level. Hell, many nights she's settled for eating ramen in order to cover the bills. Nathan's world is far from what she's used to--limos, servants, mansions, and fancy parties in ritzy hotels. But there's also danger--the threat of falling in love, and of losing her life.

I really enjoyed this story. There are tons of men out here who are very wealthy and their demeanor is some what similar to that of Nathan's (Calm, Cool, Caring and Smoothe verses cold, callus, conceited and cocky rich). I don't want to spoil it for others but In my opinion from the begining of the book you could pick up on the feelings that Nathan had for Alyssa which was a plus for me : ). At first Alyssa's personality gave me pause but then I had to remember that # 1 she was a Northern city girl, and #2 She had under gone such a great tragedy at a young age and in such situations that would cause some to act differently and guard their feelings and display their emotions in a manner that sometimes some wouldn't understand. I was so glad however that Ms. Lockwood decided to create a female character who mouthed off and could "read a chick" lol just as good or better than the person mouthing off and name calling. So at times during this book I was yelling "Yeeeeessssss finally a strong no holds bars type of chick, girl I know that's right read her" lol. I would love a follow up on this couple and especially The Corde family. So as always This author didn't dissapointment me. I gain something new from each of her novels. Tressie Lockwood has up and done it once again!

The Heroine was aggravating. I found it unbelievable that the heroine was a small business owner with a degree in English Lit.   The first time someone insulted her, she was ready to fight  them or told them F*&# you.  This book had no glaring grammatical, syntax or word choice errors.  It is over 200 pages.

So much promise but it went unfulfilled. Plot was good, a pretend girlfriend for Nathan, good chemistry between Nathan and Alyissa, and a little danger for Alyssia that she is saved from. The problem: even at 314 pages everything seemed rushed, and the subplots were unexplored and underdeveloped.I needed more about Cullen and Nathan's rivalry, Piper's relationship issues, how being with Alyissa changes Nathan, how Aylissa ultimately fits into Nathan's world.

Ok read - plot is weak - some steamy scenes and the ending was not as strong like other stories from this author.
