It had been two years since Diane Bittner¿s husband had been shot and killed. Diane and her twelve year-old daughter, Brittany, had managed to go on with their lives. Diane was still angry with Josh Lorenz, who was Juror Number Seven, the man who let, her husband¿s killer walk free. Diane was aware that a new family had moved in to the house behind hers. They were doing a lot of remodeling, and the noise was very loud. One day as Diane was thinking that she should remove Brittany¿s old tree house she heard a loud clash and saw a large tree smash into it. Josh Lorenz and his daughter Carly who was almost twelve, had moved into the big house that he was trying to remodel. Carly had been going though a difficult time she had colored her hair, wearing clothes that she had brought at the thrift store before they had moved. Josh was hoping that Carly would change as soon as she made new friends. He didn¿t plan to live here very long just long enough to fix it up and sell it. Josh had dreamed of building a house for him and Carly with acreage enough for a horse. When the man he had hired cut his large tree let it fall on the neighbor¿s tree house, Josh fired him and went over to make amends. The only problem was the next door neighbor was the woman who he had seen every day at the murder trial. The woman who couldn¿t forgive him, for setting her husband¿s killer free. Jacqueline Diamond has written a story that had me rooting for these two families that they could become one. Josh was trying to raise his daughter alone, just like Diane was trying to do, so the two of them have a lot in common, except for Diane trying not to like Josh. Carly and Brittany at first couldn¿t get along and when they begin to be come friends, their parents were at oddest with each other. This story is full of emotion and had me looking for a box of tissues.
