This book had so much promise, but the author neglected to create a plot for the characters. The chronicle of this family was disjointed and left the reader unconnected. It was a frustrating read.

I just finished reading this book a couple of minutes ago. I say, the book was a little hard to understand. I read the pages over and over again. I finally finished it tonight. The part with Zohar & Miriam having a child with no fingers and no toes was so sad. Of course, the hardest part was that they gave their son away. They cut out the pictures of him, never to mention his name, the innocent child to never have existed. Yes, the child was not well but to send him to live among strangers. The papers of his medical condition along with everything else that had to do with Gavriel to disappear. To Zohar and Miriam, only Eliezer and Tomer existed. The good thing was that they never forgot about their brother nor uncle that was killed in the war. They alway remembered.

I have read it about three or four times, and to me, it is a pretty good read. However, the book did slow down its pace towards the end, and the story of Nomi & Jeremy did not flow well with the rest of the book; things seemed to unravel in the end. Overall, I do love this book and especially love the first two stories of the baker affair and the forbidden love.

The family orchard, translated to portuguese as 'Pomar de família', is a powerfull novel, the strongest in many years.

The author never developed the characters. It was a very frustrating read and I would NOT recommend it.
