See fantastic photographs of animals, crops, and mighty machines up close. Watch the farmer hard at work during the changing seasons. The simple text is easy to work out and includes all of the basic word groups that are needed for beginning readers.

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Leona Illig
This book about farm animals, plants, and equipment is designed for young readers, with its shiny pages, large photographs, and minimal text. The pages are sturdy enough that even small hands will have a difficult time ripping them. The narrative is very elementary; for example, the authors identify what an ear of corn looks like. The description of the food chain of production, from farm to table, however, is quite good and will give youngsters a clear picture of where their dinner comes from. The layout is often humorous (a duck foot hangs over a chicken on one page). Each page contains a sentence or two in large, bold print which young readers should be able to handle. There are also numerous sidebars, in smaller, regular font, which adults can read to them (beginning readers may be able to tackle these as well, with some help). The topics covered include: cattle ranches, dairy farms, poultry, sheep, and pigs, as well as fruit farms, crops, tractors, and other farm machines. A glossary and index is included, and a digital companion book can be downloaded. This book is part of the "Discover More" series by Scholastic. Reviewer: Leona Illig
