Father & Son: The Bond is not really a story or an anthology. It's not just a photo album either. It's more like a photoalbum with notes. There are photos and comments from 52 fathers with sons. Some of them are famous, like former President Gerald Ford, and some are just regular guys. The photography is a good quality but not as inspiring as I would have liked. The comments from the fathers are brief, some are just a few lines. I suppose that all you are supposed to get from a book like this is a snapshot into people's lives, a skimming of the surface. There are some hints of the complexity and mystery of the father-son relationship but on the whole the book left me wanting to know more, to get a bit closer to the powerful mystery of the father-son relationship. I suppose this would make a good Father's Day gift; what would make it special is to add your own photo and comments as a son. That would be special.
