Overview

The year is 1938. Hitler's Germany is not a comfortable or safe place for Jews to live so Gunther and Berthe Bergmann send 12-year old Johann away from his native country to stay with a barely remembered aunt in London. How will he cope with this new life? Will he ever see his parents and sister again? On the ship he meets a pretty girl his own age who is to have a profound influence on his future and they eventually find themselves seeking a new life in the fledgling State of Israel. Even there life is not going to be peaceful and they become embroiled in another life or death conflict. But prior to this Johann will play his part in helping to defeat the Nazi menace. Along the way they make and lose friends and learn what has become of the family members they left behind.
