At first I didn't expect this to be a book that I would ordinarily be very interested in reading since the main plot revolved around the military. My husband is a former Marine and not only enjoyed the book, but recommended that I read it as well. I found the story very interesting and after reading it felt that I had a better understanding of what my husband went through when he went to bootcamp and served in the Marines. I liked the author's writing style in that he did not attempt to impress his readers with "ten dollar" words that nobody really understands. This book was very easy to read, the chapters were short and I found it to be a very enjoyable and inspiring story. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading.

While I didn't find the plot or characters to be overly simplistic, I did find that this book was very easy to read and flowed smoothly from chapter to chapter. I found all of the characters interesting and especially enjoyed watching the main character, Frank, evolve from a boy to a man. This book provided an interesting insight into the US Marines and provided plenty of action, drama and even romance. While I certainly wouldn't classify this as a "military" book, I would recommend it to anyone who has served in the US military, has a loved one in the military, as well as to anyone who would just enjoy reading a good book. I wasn't able to locate any other publications by this author and must assume that he is a first time author. If this is so, I commend him on his first book and look forward to reading the next.
