“I don’t save, I kill. I don’t build, I break. I don’t run, I chase. And I won’t rest until a new society is built on the System’s ashes.” Cassidy Havok
Kaden Valens' world is kill or be killed. Such is the life of a Challenger, the property of a Citizen. Fight or die. When Kaden is ordered to face his sole family member, his sister Nix, he chooses a different battle—one against the Federacy that owns him.
Rebel Cassidy Havok is the Federacy's worst nightmare. Her only goal is to bring down the government, doing whatever it takes to eradicate the slave-based society. When Kaden defies the Federacy publicly, she hopes to make an ally out of him, turning the tide in the resistance’s favor.
Cassidy helps Kaden escape the clutches of the Citizenry, and they flee to the Wilds, the world outside the Federacy’s reach. There they plan for the fight of a lifetime. Can they take on a nation, or is their cause a lost one?

Reviewed by K.C. Finn for Readers' Favorite Fever Rising is a dystopian action/adventure novel by author K.M. Riley. Citizens of the Federacy fall into two categories: the privileged Citizenry and the enslaved Castes. Our first hero of the tale is Kaden Valens, a young man whose very life depends on his servitude to his Sirdar. As a Challenger, Kaden faces the ultimate combat when he’s pitted against his sister, Nix. In a reflection of his parents’ enslavement, Kaden chooses another way, and his rebellion catches the attention of Cassidy Havok. True to her name, our feisty heroine understands the brutality of the lives of the Castes and Castless, and she seeks to change the system on a path of destruction and chaos. When Cassidy and Kaden join forces, this pair of wild rebels dreams of taking back their nation. K.M. Riley draws on plenty of historical influences to make her brutal dystopia come to life, particularly from the gladiator system of ancient Rome and the caste system still prevalent in parts of modern-day India. In this melding of cultures, I felt the concept for the world was well-grounded, and once you get to grips with the labels placed upon the system and the hierarchy it upholds, the reading gets a lot simpler. If I had one critique, I’d say that Cassidy in particular becomes unrealistic and single-minded a little too often for me to really connect with her as a heroine, and I’d like to have seen more emotional development from Kaden. Overall though, Fever Rising is an exciting novel with a solid dystopian concept at heart.
Fever Rising is an action packed dystopian novel that had me on the edge of my seat! The main character, Kaden, is a lovable giant with a good heart and plenty of brawn. The opening scene had me overcome with anticipation, and sets the tone for the rest of the book. Riley's writing style also appeals to me because it is smooth, yet radiant. And Cassidy Havok, well, let's just say she is the most resilient character I have come across. Her fearless attitude is enough to inspire even the most timid reader. She is sure to be a fan favorite (I know she is mine). The author, K.M Riley, gave me the honor of beta reading the book, and I will say that it did not disappoint. Her talent and love for creative writing really stood out in this beautifully written novel. I was not surprised by this given that her Spirit Awakening series was superb as well. I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for an action packed thrill ride. Very well done!
