Fidel: Hollywood's Favorite Tyrant by Humberto Fontova

"Cuba’s own Elvis"—that’s what Dan Rather calls him. Funny name for a man who has threatened the United States with nuclear war, who has made common cause with Islamic terrorists against the United States, and whose people risk death to escape him. But there’s a lot that Hollywood liberals and other Fidel Castro admirers would rather you didn’t know about the dictator of Cuba—like how he imprisoned more people as a percentage of population than Hitler or Stalin; how Fidel’s firing squads killed thousands of Cubans; how Fidel’s subjects would rather inject themselves with AIDS than live under his tyranny.

Drawing on a wealth of research—including interviews with former Castro regime officials, anti-Castro freedom fighters, and Castro’s political prisoners—acclaimed author Humberto Fontova reveals the ugly face of the Castro regime. Along the way, he punctures some of the egregious myths about Cuba:

  • The Motorcycle Bore: The real Che Guevara—not the rebel rock star of T-shirt fame, but a battlefield incompetent, a puritan-Stalinist bore, and the man who sent thousands of innocent Cubans to the firing squads
  • Communist Economics 101: How Castro took Cuba from being a First World economy that had to turn away European emigrants to a country that even impoverished Haitians won’t emigrate to, with among the highest suicide and abortion rates in the world
  • The Saddam Hussein Next Door: How Castro has not only had nuclear weapons (and wanted to launch them) but has plotted massive terrorist outrages against the United States
  • Fidel the anti-black racist and unrepentant Communist—and his long list of useful idiots: from Jesse Jackson to Oliver Stone, George McGovern to Ted Turner, Bill Clinton to Steven Spielberg, to Katie Couric and many others
  • The Left’s favorite racism: against conservative Cuban-Americans
Fidel: Hollywood’s Favorite Tyrant is a stunning exposé of the real Fidel Castro and of the hypocrisy, ignorance, and inexcusable appeasement that makes his liberal admirers notorious.

The book is an amusing account of the alleged relationship between ¿liberals¿ and Fidel Castro. When I purchased this book I was under the impression that this was a peace of genuine historical scholarship this, to my disappointment, was not the case. If I had to summarize the content of this book I would have to say that it consists, for the most part, of the authors critique of the popular culture associated with Fidel Castro. The author takes up the enterprise of writing history, that is, writing historical narrative of Castro and his exploits on occasion, but ultimately fails in this endeavor as his narrative lacks any evidential basis¿I could not find citations of any primary sources. I recommend this book for those interested in a critique of contemporary culture with some Cold War rhetoric for good measure, but not to those who are interested in history the author succeeds in what he intended to do.

Hard to put down! Its about time this book was written. Liberals in the Media, Hollywood and the Beltway Love Castro. It is sickening to those of us who know the truth and lived it. Cuban - Americans are passionate about Cuba. 'Fidel' explains in Plain English why we are so 'opinionated.' We Know the Truth. You will find it in 'Fidel.' 'Fidel' should be required reading in every Civics Class. Way to Go!

Fontova, who is from a Cuban exile family, has watched a paranoid sadist ruin Cuba for the past 47 years. This tyrant has made a mockery of human rights, cruelly repressed a freedom-loving people, and saddled his citizenry with a censorship index somewhere in the vicinity of North Korea. And all the while, the left loves the guy, the U.N. ignores the volumes of documented crimes against humanity, and Oliver Stone turns Castro into George Washington. Fontova tells it like it is.

My parents are Cuban and I've heard a lot of stories, but this book just put it all together for me. It is a hair raising read that is filled with facts and research. Cubans have suffered a great deal and hopefully people reading this book will understand our history, our passion and won't be so quick to judge.

Incredible book that changed the way I look at the Leftists forever (not that I was one in the first place). It's unbelieveable that JFK, 'everyones hero' and according to my history teacher 'our greatest president ever.' After reading this book, I've gotten into several battles during class with my teacher on the state of Cuba. I must say, it's prettty damn funny to see a grown woman nearly cry from 'never being so insulted'.

Reading many of the pages in this amazingly well researched book was like reading the Venezuelan news last week. Castro has infiltrated the Venezuelan military and other institutions and practically runs Caracas' foreign policy. Chavez's corrupt government provides a handsome oil lifeline to the murderous dictator. This is much graver than many appreciate. Before it was Angola, Nicaragua, even Colombia and Bolivia... The Cuban Dictator failed. But now in Venezuela he has a chance to win because he's getting wealthier than with any other of his dealings with the Colombian narcos... Oil has just a whole different dimension to it. Will the world let these assassins (Castro, Chavez, and friends like Robert Mugabe) get away with their nasty deeds and get rich while at it? Forget about the Left or the Right, the rise of these maniacs will hit everyone.

Fontoya brings out of the closet the truth about Castro and the whitewash that the Hollywood and media left create about the psychopathic dictator. I am glad I picked it up and plan to pass it around to all my friends, conservatives and liberals.

Fidel was a dictator who set up a Gulag island with 500,000 prisoners. The Cuban communists killed 15,000 men, mostly by firing .45 caliber handguns into their heads at close range (in contrast, Pinochet, who is hated by Leftists, killed 5,000). The average Cuban today gets less rations than the average Cuban slave in 1840. Fidel asked the USSR to nuke the U.S. in the Cuban missile crisis of 1962. Fidel hated Che Guevara, and often sent him on 'missions' to get rid of him. Cuba's communist party is 0.08 % black, but its prisons are 80 % black. Blacks are treated very badly and a type of apartheid exits in Cuba. Che was the worst type of idealist who personally sent 1800 men to their deaths, without trial. Cuba today cannot even keep the electricity on, and most Cubans would leave if given the chance. And that even though Cuba received billions from the USSR in aid. Cuba is a bankrupt dictatorship.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you...Finally someone has the 'courage' to put it all together in layman terms for everyone to know who the REAL Fidel is. Must read for those interested in Cuban history, or those looking for an excelent book.

This book is a must read for those people that have taken off the blinders of liberalism/socialism. Fontova pulls no punches as he points out the various celebrities who know nothing about Castro's tyranny.
