Charley Davidson isn't your everyday, run-of-the-mill grim reaper. She's more of a paranormal private eye/grim reaper extraordinaire. However, she gets sidetracked when the sexy, sultry son of Satan, Reyes Farrow, moves in next door. To further complicate matters, Reyes is her main suspect in an arson case. Charley has vowed to stay away from him until she can find out the truth…but then dead women start appearing in her apartment, one after another, each lost, confused, and terrified beyond reason. When it becomes apparent that her own sister, Gemma, is the serial killer's next target Charley has no choice but to ask for Reyes' help. Arsonist or not, he's the one man alive who could protect Gemma no matter who or what came at her. But he wants something in return. Charley. All of her, body and soul. And to keep her sister safe, it is a price she is willing to pay.

Charley Davidson is at it again in Fifth Grave Past the Light, the sexy, suspenseful, and laugh-out-loud funny fifth installment of the New York Times bestselling series by Darynda Jones.

Run...run now and get this entire series if you have yet to read it. Because... The. Best. Ending. Ever! I don't understand how you do it Darynda Jones. I really really don't. Every time I finish reading one of the Charley Davidson books I think "No way she can top that." My foot always ends up firmly in my mouth, because you can and you friggin' do. If Charley was a real person I would stalk her. Because A) it would be the most entertaining days of my life and, B) she's friggin awesome. Oh, and C) I would probably come across Rayes Farrow....MMMmmmmmmmm. And I wish Cookie was a real person. I would try and be her best friend because we already have the Winchester brothers in common. These novels never cease to make me laugh out loud continuously and are always ALWAYS good for bringing a smile to my face. Although there are some things I can predict, there always things I think I'm right about and then I'm just not. AND THEN there are the things that just come out of now where. Its like the whole "Pay attention to this hand" then- whack! That is seriously how I feel after reading everyone of her novels. The book was amazing. I don't even know if I have any words for it. I will point out that the scene with the therapist and Charley's "art" made me laugh, because really only Charley would plan ahead enough for that. There was a lot of Reyes...which made me giggle, and just enough Swoopes to satisfy me. Yes, I love Swoopes, and what is unraveling in his life...makes me smile, cry, and just want more. I, like Charley in this novel, do miss the biker boys and I hope they return soon. Usually when I come across a series that has this many books I always find that they start to go downhill after a few books and pick up later on, or there is a book that I find to be a "filler" book, but that's not the case with Charley. We are on book five and I'm just as happy with this book as I was the first. I want more, and I don't know if I can wait a couple of months to a year to get it. Perhaps now would be a time to learn how to hack into people's computers? But, I really respect Darynda Jones and other authors too much to do that...but seriously it's tempting. Good: EVERYTHING!!! Reyes---Because he is Reyes Alexander Farrow. If you've the books you clearly understand. If you haven't...you and I need to have a firm talk. Charley---The most entertaining person ever. Really...she should be given an Oscar. Swoopes- I love Swoopes. I have always been stuck between Reyes and Swoopes. In my opinion they are both equally awesome. I will forever remember his "5 things never to say to a grim reaper" list. Cookie-We are kindred spirits as Anne of Green Gables would say. She understand my love for Sam and Dean. And she is probably just as clumsy and absolutely as fantastic as I am. Uncle Umbie- I can't wait for the day when he finally asks Cookie out. And he's been working out. Bless him. Bad: There will never be anything in this category when it comes to a Charley Davidson book. Never. Overall (Writing style, story line, and general): Overall this book was absolutely amazing. I think it should be turned into a movie...but they would have to make sure there is an inner dialogue for the Charley character because, really, that is where the gold is. This book was easy to follow and I never had to re-read to understand what was happening. The plot was awesome and although the mystery wasn't really a fore-front as some of the other novels it really didn't matter because it was entertaining and dramatic in many other ways. There are always punches that you don't see coming in these novels and they always take my breath away. God I love this series.

This is by far the BEST book in this series, and I didnt think that would have been possible considering how great the other books were at staying fresh and original.  I am loving how this is playing out. Charley is an incredible grim reaper.  Reyes is, well, he is Reyes, dont need to say more about him.   One of the thing Darynda does best is not only develop likable characters, write original story lines, and keep her reading guessing on the edge of their seat from start is finish, but she also develops the supporting characters.  She does such a great job that we fall in love with them also.   Definitely a MUST READ series!

~Reviewed by ANGELA & posted at Under the Covers Book Blog I don’t think Ms Jones know how to disappoint even if she tried. She yet again delivered a well written and most definitely engaging novel. Fifth Grave Past the Light is written with suspense, snark, good humor and sexy romance. Just like the rest if this series, it was nothing else but awesome! Charley is again attemping to solve a mystery she is hired to do. But of course, she stumbles on a super natural clue that leads to a mystery of multiple deaths. I have to warn you that this installment is the scariest, let me rephrase, creepiest soul/ghost encounter Charley has had. While most of the ghost encounters are always with humor and never scary, this book freaked me out a little and broke my heart. You will see what I mean when you read this book, just know that there are some scenes that will be engrained in your brain. Besides that, Charley comes back in this book a bit more refined with her new powers and strength. Her humor never wavers and she is back with the “T-shirt quotes”. Wait until you see what other things/body part Charley blessed with a nick name. Where do Darynda get these? I mean this lady is just brilliant! In seriousness, I think Charley is one funny but a very strong heroine and I would not want to miss any of her adventures. When I mentioned having Reyes in the flesh in my review of Fourth Grave Beneath My Feet ….I lied. We really see him in the flesh in THIS installment. We not only see him in the flesh (for reals) but up close and personal. You see him live his daily life without prison, constant stress and issues with his “true being” as the son of Satan. We’re getting Reyes in the flesh!!! No holds bard!!! His playfulness his persona in and out of the bedroom and OMG, he knows what to do with kitchen utensils. Due to “correspondence course”…naturally. I swear I just can’t get enough of this guy! Cookie will “Learn the cock…Know the cock. Be the cock.” And she will learn to like it. She will also make some progress with Ubie. I think those two deserves to be happy and no doubt a novella waiting to happen. Angel finds out how much he is worth to Charley and boy she will get it from him. And Garreth, well, he hasn’t made it pass what happened to him with the last book. Poor guy. If you think he was up tight then…you’ll think him worse here. There a few new characters that I’m curious about. Not sure what they mean to Charley yet but if I know Ms Jones, she has something up her sleeve. I do trust that it will be another awesome book…without a doubt. *ARC provided by publisher in exchange for an honest review

I love this series and all the characters.  About a year ago I stumbled upon the audio version of the fist book as I was going on a long car trip. It was perfect, I could listen to half the book on the way there, half on the way back. Well, when I got to my destination, I didn't want to wait to listen to the ending.  I have been hooked ever since.  The characters are well developed and the story line is different and keeps me guessing at what will happen next.  The banter between the different characters is great. I cannot say enough great things about this book.  I also loved the GPS bit in this book, it had me laughing out loud.

Darynda Jones did it again!!!! I have enjoyed this entire series but I think this has been my favorite book so far. All of her books have had some wicked humor.....lots of mystery and plenty of sexy characters. I love her sense of humor and how that translates to her characters and story. Charlie and Reyes are fantastic and bring so much to the books. I can only hope there are a few more books she has planned for this series. If you haven't read the series I suggest you do. They have a fantastic twist on the new paranormal characters and a ton of emotions in the storyline. Highly recommend!!

Charley Davidson Book 5 Arsonists, serial killers and sexy next-door neighbors all appear in the latest caffeinated tale of the grim reaper. When Charley discovers that Reyes is her new neighbor, she knows she's in for trouble. We get to see a bit more of Gemma in this book, as well. Looking for a quirky paranormal series with wit and charm? This is the series for you!

I want to be Charlie Davidson! She is compassionate, funny, sexy and the son of Satan loves her; what a woman. Every new book in this series is good.  The storyline and characters seem so real and not so one dimensional.  I love paranormal romance books and this is one of the best series that I have ever read. Keep up the good work Ms. Jones, but write faster please!  I just ordered book #6 today and I hope book #7 is ready for print.

A friend suggested this series and I put off months reading the first book...and now I am hooked!!! I have read all six books twice now and I can hardly wait for the next book to come out. I have never considered joining a book club to discuss and analyze but these books make me want to do it.

It has been awhile since I have read one of Darynda's books and it makes me wonder why. I love her stories. The quirky Charley, red hot Reyes, always loyal Cookie, and the never ending supply of dead people. Action packed and a bunch of humor to go with it. Can't go wrong with a Charley Davidson book. 4.5 ??

Fifth Grave Past the Light is book five in the Charley Davidson series. I'm so glad I am finally getting back into these, though I'm not sure why I stopped since they're so good. There is a ton of humor mixed into the story and it's also full of ghosts and mystery. As always, our leading lady Charley Davidson is working as a PI on a case to help the police but at the same time, she's balancing her grim reaper duties. I already know I'll be binge listening/reading this series so expect reviews for the following books up in the next week or two. We start off with Charley Davidson, a PI that is also a grim reaper. She talks to ghosts and lets them cross through her on top of helping solve cases for the local police department. It doesn't take long to dive into the mystery elements when she wakes up one morning and finds a lot of female ghosts in her apartment that all have similar appearances in how they died. She's also quickly involved in figuring out who is behind several arson incidents that have the police stumped. That isn't all the plot threads weaved into this novel, though, we also have Charley's hunky love interest, Reyes Farrow moving into the apartment next to hers. After the romance aspect building up in the past few novels, I was so happy to see it finally happen. Reyes is a lust worthy character that has always protected Charley and you can tell her cares for her so much. The tension between the two has been electric and continues to be so. Fifth Grave Past the Light is a perfect addition to this addicting series. I can't believe I forgot how hilarious DJones' books are. Between Charley and her assistant Cookie, I was laughing in every chapter. I seriously love when humor is mixed into the story and done correctly and this is a perfect example of how it's done. The characters and plot are done well and the story arcs are weaved seamlessly. All in all, this series is perfect for fans of Urban Fantasy with ghosts and romance mixed in. I have to give major props to the narrator, Lorelei King. She really knocks these audiobooks out of the park with how she voices all the characters. You can easily distinguish between the different character voices and she brings them all to life. I've read one of these in paperback and enjoyed it but I have to highly suggest readers try the audiobook versions if you're open to that format since it adds another level to the story.

I just cannot put these books down! I buy the next one as soon as I finish reading the previous book. I am curious though, as to why this book cost's a dollar more than the last ones in the series and has less pages.

I suddenly realized that I am several books behind in this series. Was it a lack of interest? Reading this one confirmed that is NOT a lack of interest. Blamethe distraction of many other great books These are fun, hot, entertaining stories. Balancing being a grim reaper and being totally enamored of the son of satan is a lot to handle. I'm glad I got back to Charley, Reyes, and all.

My sister introduced me to this series when it came out and proceeded to rave about it until I finally gave in and gave it a try. I read the first four books back to back and agreed with her assessment of a great series. And in the wait for book five to come out, I got side tracked and it dropped off my radar. Alright, not so much off the radar, as by the time she finished with the book I was into something else and the book just kept sliding further and further back on the shelf. Eventually it because a matter of "Ugh, how many books to get caught up?" I'm sure you've been there. Then I found the series on audio format, and my thought was to give myself another way to get caught up. I can't believe I waited so long to get back into this series! First off, Lorelei King abso-freaking-lutely rocks as the narrator for this series. The male voices aren't fantastic, but she nails the snark and sarcasm, the attitude and bad-assery that makes Charley so much fun. Charley pokes fun at everything, and lives life to the absolute fullest. Lorelei gives us that tongue-in-cheek playfulness that is so Charley. I can't imagine going back to just reading this series now. Lorelei has ruined me for Darynda's mere written word. This was my first experience with Lorelei King and I'm hooked. It has been long enough since I read the other books, that I really needed some previous book summary to help me recall and get back up to speed. Thankfully enough was provided that I felt pretty good moving forward in the book. Would this be enough for someone starting the series at this book? Eh, maybe. But why would you? My previous ratings were all 4 stars, so why not just start at the beginning and enjoy the awesomeness that is to come? I was so happy with this book and format, I gave it 5 stars and dived right into book six.

A Must Read Contemporary, Paranormal Romance Albuquerque, New Mexico Charley Davidson isn’t a run-of-the-mill grim reaper. She leans more towards paranormal private eye/grim reaper extraordinaire. Unfortunately she gets sidetracked when Reyes Farrow moves in next door especially with him being the sexy, sultry son of Satan. If that wasn’t enough things get even more complicated when he is her main suspect in an arson case. Charley is determined to stay away from him until she finds out the truth. At least that was her plan until dead women start showing up in her apartment one after the other. Each one confused, lost and terrified beyond reason. Soon Charley has no choice but to ask Reyes for help when it becomes apparent that the serial killer’s next target is her sister, Gemma. Reyes may be an arsonist but he is also the only man that can protect Gemma no matter what is headed her way. There is a price to pay for that protection. Reyes wants one thing, Charley. Body and soul. That is price Charley is willing to pay to keep her sister safe. This is a series that gets better and better with each book. Neither the laughs nor the action stop and it keeps the book moving along at a very fast pace. This is one book that readers will find very hard to put down and just might finish in one sitting. Charley is a very fun and interesting character that will have readers wishing they could know her in real life. Everyone could use a Charley in their life. The story will also have readers wanting to read the next book just to see what happens next to Charley as wherever Charley is trouble is sure to follow.
