This story of great depth is beautifully illustrated. Initially it appears to be a boy's tale of adventure, but subsequently the story line becomes surprising, and the end is unpredictable. If you pick it up, you have to read it through the end. I have read it four times, and each time it has touched me to the point of tears. This version does justice and honors the original author of this story, Stefan Sweig who is one of the best known writers in Europe, but unfortunately poorly recognized in the US. I highly recommend it.
