Overview

He'd beaten me TO DEATH.

For years, I'd been taking it, accepting the beatings, silently believing the worthlessness he saw in me. I'd obeyed his rules, I'd catered to his whims.

I woke up in a hospital bed. Bruised, broken, in shock.

That was The Moment.

In that moment, I knew that I had to get out. I loved my husband. I missed him. But I needed more than he would ever offer. I deserved more than I'd been given, more than flying fists and fragile tempers.

I deserved to wear what I chose. I deserved to go where I wanted. I deserved goodnight kisses. I deserved gentle touches. I deserved to feel LOVED, and not POSSESSED.

I deserve to FIGHT for my FREEDOM.

Fighting for Freedom is the first book in a new series by Brandi Kennedy. It is the first book I have read by this writer and it opened the flood gates for me! I fell in love with her writing, the way she brings the characters to life for us, the way she forces us to step outside of our mundane lives and feel and breathe with her characters… what a talent she has! Fighting for Freedom is the story of Christine who lives in constant fear … every single moment of her life is overshadowed by this physical fear … and she is right in being paralyzed by it as one night, her husband does kill her … for a moment … this moment though opens up a door to a second chance. The opening scene of the book, it stays with you, it haunts you and you will not forget it … the writer has a mastery of words to the extent that you feel you are there, you feel the pain, you feel the despair, you feel the life leaving your body … I cannot wait for the next book in the series as I want to be part of Christine’s journey back to life, after having taken this ultimate step out of the domestic abuse – leaving the abuser …
