On the island of Mutasia, where everyone is a mix of two or more different animals, it sure is hard to find the perfect pet. But if anyone is up for the challenge, it’s Figley! When his friend, Billie, admits that she’s grown tired of her boring pet pugapillar (pug-caterpillar), Figley sets out to find her the weirdest, wildest, and wackiest pets on the island! He introduces her to an assortment of mixed-up animals like a dolphin-pony, a lizard-cat, and a flamingo-elephant-goldfish! But with each positive feature that comes with a critter’s mix, there’s an unexpectedly troublesome trait too! As the exotic animals begin destroying her house, Billie starts to reassess what’s really important in a perfect pet.

Interviews

Through the lens of finding a perfect pet, “Figley’s Search For The Perfect Pet,” explores the universal themes of ‘contentment’ and ‘appreciation’ that can apply to multiple situations in a kid’s life. Many kids see things as “the grass is always greener,” taking the stuff they have for granted and wishing for something ‘different’ and ‘better.’ This book takes a humorous approach to helping kids learn to appreciate the the things, and the people, around them.

Entertaining read for children and adults alike! This is a quality children's book with wonderful illustrations, colors, and characters. Boys and girls love the mixed-up hybrid creatures and the life-lessons Mutasia promotes are subtle but effective. Highly recommended for the children (and children-at-heart) in your household!

A friend bought a copy for me to give to my nieces (5&7) and it went over big! The illustrations are so cute and creative. My 5 year old niece loves the animal combinations (and now wants a pugipillar!) and the 7 year old really loved the lesson of the story.

Great kid's book! My 3- and 5-year old love looking at all the crazy animal combinations. The Dolphony (dolphin-pony) and, of course, Carl, the Pugapillar (pug-caterpillar) are their favorites. Besides the adorable story, the book is illustrated beautifully - a real treat for mom and dad.
