I am struggling with what to say in this review. Along with other reviewers, I had a hard time getting through the first half. I, too, thought I'd be reading a book about a dog and this was more a book about Sally Hyder's life...both before and after learning she had MS. At times I thought I didn't care about the early years, hurry up and get to the dog part. I also felt frustrated by how the story jumped around and was sometimes hard to follow. Once I realized this is more like reading her sometimes very personal diary (or a long letter to a friend), I relaxed and just went with it. In the end, I was glad I had stuck with it. Sally has had more challenges than some of us will ever have and she has gotten through all of them. I loved her sense of humor. It's a beautiful illustration of how her partner dog, Harmony, changes life not just for her but for her entire family. It paints a picture of how someone who has to rely on people for the everyday things we take for granted can suddenly realize some independence. But best of all, it's a great story about how someone/anyone can choose to overcome adversity and take on challenges that seem impossible. For me, the end made it all worth reading! Charge on, Sally!

I can't imagine being in a wheelchair all the time! It is amazing how a dog can make a person feel almost independent again. Not having to depend on others for everything is wonderful. What the trainers do to teach these animals is also amazing to me. Such patients and determination! This was a great read to me and hope others will read it and understand what the handicapped must go through in life.

This book is just not well written. It's a nice story, but very short and simple sentences. I kept reading it expecting more. The dog doesn't even come into account until half way through the book.

Although Harmony is a remarkable helper, found this book to be more about the author's life than the dog's.

This story of how a service dog inspired a Scottish family is quite interesting, but suffers from poor organization and a lack of editting. A ghost writer would have helped. There is WAAAY too much background about the author's life - Harmony, the service dog from the title, doesn't make an appearance until half-way through the book. A couple of chapters would have been sufficient to set the stage for Harmony's appearance and impact on the family. The narrative of Harmony's abilities as a service animal is interesting but a somewhat bumpy read.

Finding Harmony was a personal read for me. This book helped me to find a way to express to myself & my family how I feel about my own MS. Sally Hyder brought tears to not only my eyes but my mothers as well. I decided to share with those I love the inner workings of my journey through Finding Harmony...I'd say they have a better understanding now & for that I am grateful. So, thank you Ms. Hyder for sharing your journey, your fears, & your inspiration.

This is an inspirational book by an awesome woman who refused to let her disability get the better of her. I loved every page of it, but especially her accounts of acquiring Harmony and what a difference this remarkable dog made in her life.

It was a wonderful story not only about Harmony but how much hard work goes into training for the dog and the person that gets the dog. My favorite was the "cuddle" the Harmony gave and got. Good story about the trails and tribulations of someone in a wheelchair .

This book gets it! I could really understand what she was feeling when she first got Harmony. I went throuhg much the same when I first started using a Service Dog. She tells it like it is when you are in a place that isn't used to people having working dogs.

If you know anyone with MS this book is for you. I have even greater respect for the accomplishments that my friend with MS has made after reading this book. Very positive and inspiring story.

Easy read. A real eye opener to the assistance a dog can provide to someone in need.
