About the Author

Edward E. Moody Jr. has been a counselor educator at North Carolina Central University since 1995. He is Professor and Chair of the Department of Counselor Education. Moody also serves as pastor of Tippett's Chapel in Clayton, NC. As a minister he has helped people with a variety of difficulties, and as a psychological consultant he has counseled troubled youth. He has a Ph.D. from North Carolina State University in counselor education, an M.A. from Middle Tennessee State University in clinical psychology, and a B.A. from Free Will Baptist Bible College in pastoral training. He is a Licensed Professional Counselor in NC as well as a Licensed Health Services Provider-Psychological Associate. His first book published was "First Aid for Emotional Hurts - Helping People Through Difficult Times" and has become an excellent resource especially for ministers. Dr. Moody has also published several articles in scholastic journals and serves as a workshop leader for various events within the Christian community and counseling community. He and his wife, Lynne, live in North Carolina, along with their two children.

Perhaps you are at a point in your life where you do not know what to do. You've picked up this booklet because you are overwhelmed with emotional pain. Everyone will experience emotional hurt at some point in life. We may experience it after the death of someone close to us or while enduring a chronic illness. Emotional hurt may be the result of experiencing a traumatic event or a problem form the past that will not go away. Issues ranging from an unexpected pregnancy to being overwhelmed by debt may upset of sense of balance. Family problems can lead to emotional hurt like a marriage that is not what it could be, one that has ended in divorce or a relationship plagued by abuse. Emotional hurt can be self-inflicted (e.g., stemming from substance abuse or gambling) or unavoidable like schizophrenia or another cronic illness. It could simply be a nagging sense that you aren't what you ought to be. You may be experiencing emotional hurt as a result of a diagnosable mental disorder (e.g., major depression, anxiety disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, eating disorders).
