Overview

In 1940s London during World War II, teenager Belle Maurice is sent to the London countryside to escape the bombings in the city. She knows she will miss her mother and worry about her father, who is away fighting in the war, but she has no idea what awaits her in the manor where she is to live. She finds friends with the staff, but the mysterious and elusive master of the house, Mr. Prince, frightens her. What would she make of this man, who appeared only for dinner and disappeared into his room at other times? Would he be like the dreaded Bluebeard in Beauty and the Beast, bringing girls to his mansion only to kill them in a cellar? Should she steer clear of him, or reject her fear and reach out to him? Having prayed that God would help her see the beauty in the world and other people, she knew she had a daunting dilemma.

Finding the Magic is a novella that poses a question: Can Belle teach Mr. Prince to find the magic in a world where all magic seems to be long gone?

About the Author

I go by the name Jack. I've been writing since the age of thirteen when I decided all I would ever write would be books about the Oregon Trail and Pioneer Life. This changed when I discovered the world of Steampunk and I wrote the book which would be my first self-published story, Haphazardly Implausible. While the book is currently being re-written and updated I am not sorry I published it when I did. It helped me take the first steps toward publishing Brothers-in-Arms.

Brothers-in-Arms was an idea I had ten or more years before I wrote it down. When I finally wrote it, I wrote the first draft in a month, thanks to the help of some very dear friends. It has been the hardest book I've ever had to write because of how true to actual events it is. I hope readers will take away a reminder of the courage the men and women had who lived during the time of WWII.

I currently live in Tahoe, California. I live in a cabin in the woods with my dog and my many books.
