About the Author

Debra is a native New Yorker who made her escape to the suburbs. She often returns to her hometown to visit her favorite deli for a bagel with butter, because there’s no better bagel than a New York bagel. When not in search of bagels, Debra spends her time running Book Enthusiast Promotions, an online promotions company that helps indie authors spread the word about their books. She’s also the owner of The Book Enthusiast blog.

She started writing lyrics in her wall-to-wall NKOTB bedroom at the tender age of thirteen while dreaming of the day she’d become Mrs. Jordan Knight. That dream never came to fruition, but she has continued to write. Now she’s working on her first novel.

This is a debut novel from Debra Presley, I'd say i'm very impressed. The thing that stuck out the most for me is the fact that you have a full story, everything is covered, but not everything had to be tied up in a neat bow at the very end of the story. Ms Presley allowed the story and plot to run at it's on pace and different plot points to end where they needed to, not just at the end. It made the reading experience very enjoyable and kept me hanging on to see what would happen next. Their is a great development of characters and friendships. From the unsure Rock Star gaining her footing, To the Psycho, you get a good sense of who each person is. The story itself is full of friendship, press, fans, love, psycho's over controlling mothers, gossip, danger, good times and so so much more. Looking forward to more books by Debra and glad i chose this for the book i read during the #30dayreadingindie book challenge.

“Finding Us” by Debra Presley was a great and fast read that I devoured in one session. It looks like we will be getting a good new series with “Nucci Securities”. And imagine my surprise when I saw this is ONLY her debut novel, well let’s say I hope we will see more interesting novels from her. Her writing is fluent, flawless and at the exactly right speed for the reader to develop a connection to the story.. With Abby and Danny, she created two really likeable characters that the reader can easily connect with. They have enough depths to be interesting, even though I have to say that Sean, their opponent, is a little predictable. A totally recommendable Debut – great work …

I was lucky enough to beta this story for the author. Here's my review: In this debut novel for Debra Presley she created an excellent book of characters that make up a team for a famous female singer named Abby. Included are her bodyguard, Danny; assistant, Sophie; assistant bodyguard, Connor; guitar player/boyfriend, Sean; manager, her mom. So, in Finding Us, Abby has a negative experience with her boyfriend Sean. He's isn't a character that will be endeared to your heart by any means. Nor will Abby's mother. There were times when I was reading along that I wanted to strangle both of these two characters. They are very opinionated and strong in their convictions. Their convictions just don't match with Abby's. Sean causes some major issues and Abby's bodyguard, Danny immediately puts plans in place to help Abby with the instances that ensue. Now, let's talk about Danny for a bit. He's ex-military, Owner of Nucci Securities, and one hot bodyguard. If you're thinking about Kevin Costner in The Bodyguard - the characters don't look the same but the concept is. He'll do anything to protect Abby even from himself. Their relationship is well built and I think the author developed them well. The secondary characters help to strengthen this book and the overall story. No hindrance here. They play integral parts in Abby's life and her story and how it plays out. I would definitely recommend you read this story. See if you think Abby gets her due - in one form or fashion. I'd love to hear what you think!

5 star The story has laughs, pain, secrets, betrayal, suspense, and heartbreak. I was pulled right into this story. This is Abby and Danny’s story. Abby is in a relationship with Sean but he turns against her after she catches him with a groupie. She wants him gone but her mother fights her on it. The more aggressive he gets the more she turns to Danny. Danny has always protected Abby. The more people that turn against Abby the more protective Danny gets towards her. When she is attacked they realize that Sean is completely crazy. Can Danny really protect her from Sean when no matter whom he has on duty she ends up getting hurt. Can he always be there for her? The more time Abby is with Danny the closer they become. He is the only person around her that treats her like a person. She has feelings for him but does he for her? When Sean finally comes for her will Danny be able to keep her safe? Will he be able to stop treating her like a protection detail and like his girl or will he lose her when he can’t separate the job from the date? I felt I was able to connect with the characters and the story was a great read. I highly recommend this book, can’t wait for the next story in this series.

Received via Netgalley for honest review I really enjoyed this story! It’s a story of figuring out who you are standing up for yourself. Abby has been sheltered by her mother her entire life. The woman controls absolutely everything but when Abby finds out she has committed the ultimate betrayal, she’s done and she finally starts to live her life the way she wants to live it. The characters that you were meant to love were very likeable and the characters you were meant to hate were also very vivid and yes, I disliked them, greatly…the author succeeded in that very well. There were some interesting twists to the story and it’s more suspense than romance (not necessarily a bad thing because I really enjoy mystery/thriller/suspense as well) since things don’t really start going anywhere with Abby and Danny until about the last 25% of the book. Overall, it was a fast paced story with lots of action but there were a few times where it kind of lulled a bit and once the threat of danger was removed, it slowed down even more. I’m not sure why but the writing just didn’t jump out and grab me most of the time. It’s really well written so I’m wondering if it’s just that it’s written in 3rd POV. Overall, it was a great read and I look forward to reading more from this author!

This is Debra’s debut novel and may I just say …WOW she hit it right outta the park. The characters are very well written and believable. The situation sounds probably when dealing with rock stars. I think the story-telling is phenomenal. Abby is a strong girl who kind of gets caught up in letting others do for her. When she catches her guitar playing boyfriend with his pants down, literally, she breaks up with him. She decides then and there to follow her dreams and make on her own. Yay for girl power. Danny has been Abby’s head of security for a very long time. His will is tested when he falls for her. Time will tell if he works out his personal issues and lets this happen. I was gifted this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is a cute contemporary romance. I was glad that it wasn't all about Abby trying to become famous or entirely music focused. When you meet Abby she is already famous and the story is about her life, not her music. She is a very likable character and not an egocentric pop star at all. However, she is surrounded by HORRIBLE people (her mother included!). You feel so badly for Abby's situation. I loved Sophie as well. She was a great character. This book is pretty fast paced for the most part and there is a LOT that happens. What I wasn't crazy about: The last few chapters were odd for me. The book had moved along with so much drama and danger, then when the threat is over, the book really slowed for me. I kept thinking someone else major was going to happen, but it didn't. It isn't a bad ending by any means, it just didn't seem to fit with the rest of the book. However, maybe thats just me!

Finding Us by Debra Presley is the first book in her Nucci Securities series AND is her debut novel. Well Done! A story that flows well from first page to last with a great deal of humor and tension interspersed throughout. This will leave you wanting to keep reading, regardless of what is happening around you. Abby is a famous Pop Star with a famous boyfriend and a toxic mother. It's no surprise that she is betrayed by them both - but as a not-famous person it was refreshing to view the world from Abby's perspective. You would think being famous she could do whatever she wants, but no, she is more limited in her choices and has very few people that she can truly trust. Her bodyguard Danny is one of those trustworthy people. Danny has a job to protect Abby. Usually from crazed fans and the paparazzi, but now also from her scheming ex and mother. It isn't hard to see that these two have feelings for each other but is heartwarming (and frustrating) to see just how hard they try to keep their friendship intact, worrying that a relationship would ruin that. Told from both POV's and has an ending that won't leave you dangling off a cliff (figuratively OR literally, LOL)!

This book is proof that a debut novel can ROCK! Debra has brought us characters to love, hate, cheer for, laugh, cry and love with. Abby Murphy, pop star extraordinaire, learns the sad lesson that not everyone who surrounds her is really there for her. I mean, with 'friends' like those, who needs enemies, right? She needed to tell her mother to take a long walk off a short pier and Sean, her so-called boyfriend, well, I think she had just cause to go all Lorena Bobbit on him but hey, that's me. She definitely needed a better Fairy Godmother because the one she had was not working out so good. Better than a Fairy Godmother, Abby had Sophie - her assistant - and Danny. (Oh Danny boy. Yum!) You see, he was her bodyguard and Danny & Sophie are truly on Abby's side. Between the two of them, she got the help she needed to try and sort out who she could trust and kind of clean house, so to speak. In the meanwhile, she and Danny spent a lot of close personal time together, allowing their friendship to become something more. I loved watching their relationship grow and after all, Danny is just yummy! I see him kind of like Stefan from Vampire Diaries. *grin* Of course, I wanted to like this book because of how I feel about Debra but I'll tell you, it was a MAJOR page turner and that had nothing to do with how I feel about her and everything to do with Debra's talent as an author. Seriously there were times when I wanted to scream at the characters - especially Sean the dirtbag - and then other times I got all mushy and tender feeling. Sometimes I was on the edge of my seat, wondering what could possibly happen next and then - finally - some serious steam. (Wasn't sure it was gonna happen...;) Bottom line: Really, really good book from an author to watch! We have only scratched the surface here with her. I get the feeling she has some other story ideas for Nucci Securities - maybe a little Sophie and Connor action? So who should read this? For the 18 and older crowd I'd say and then you have no worries regarding maturity level or intimacy level. Anyone loving Contemporary Romance, especially Music based Romance or even Suspense/Action Romance lovers. Then be prepared for an easy, enjoyable read, cover to exciting cover! Rating: 5 Stars Heat: 3/5 Blush Worthy This book was provided to me as an ARC from the author for an honest review.
