I found this history to be balanced and interesting. It is an updated version of a doctoral dissertation written by Gentry. However, Compton has added additional research and considered opposing viewpoints and has turned it into an excellent history of the last three years of the Mormons in Missouri, before they left for Illinois. It is well written.
