Overview

Author Kasey Montgomery has returned to her hometown of Fire Creek, Montana after the apparent suicide of her cousin. Within days of Beth's funeral, Kasey begins to find inconsistencies in her death. The local sheriff is quick to dismiss the allegations as figments of a writer's imagination. Kasey, going against her grandfather's wishes, is determined to prove otherwise.

Single father, and local park ranger, Jimmy Little Raven suspects Kasey may be on to something. His best friend was engaged to Beth and he too died a suspicious death. He's been around the area long enough to know things aren't always as they seem.

After Kasey and Jimmy compare notes, they come to the conclusion that something sinister is going down in Fire Creek, and that knowledge could place their lives in peril also.

Meet the Author

As a child Anne always had a very vivid imagination. When most kids on her block were playing with their dolls and army men, Anne and her detective friends was busy solving make believe crimes in the neighborhood. Each day was a new and exciting adventure with danger lurking around every corner. Then in high school, after discovering the wonderful world of romantic suspense, Anne decided to put that imagination to better use. She has been spinning stories ever since. When she isn't writing, she enjoys spending time with family and friends and traveling to foreign countries to experience new cultures. She makes her home in Kansas with her playful German Shepherd, Zoe, and an ornery cat named Sailor.

Reviewed by Ellen H. for Readers Favorite Kasey Montgomery has come home for her cousin Beth's funeral. Kasey and Beth were raised by their grandparents after their parents' deaths. After thinking long and hard about Beth, Kasey decides that her death was not suicide but murder and sets out to find out the truth. Jimmy Little Raven is sure that Beth's fiance Lewis's death was not an accident but murder. Kasey takes her concerns to the sheriff who disregards them and tells her to keep writing her mysteries and leave the police work to him. Jimmy and Kasey band together to get to the bottom of Beth and Lewis's deaths. Along the way Kasey will learn things about herself and will have to face the knowledge that her life had been a lie. God's help and Jimmy's presence will help get her through. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is one of the best books I have read in a long time. The main characters of Kasey and Jimmy were believable. You just could not help but root for them to find their answers. Loved the fact that Kasey wanted to learn about Jimmy's heritage and attended his first dance with his tribe. Jimmy's character had a nice balance between his Native American heritage and his Christianity. Nice to see characters that ask God for guidance in what they want to do. Through their trials God's hand kept Kasey and Jimmy safe. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes to read a good mystery with a little romance thrown in. I will be looking for more of Anne Patrick's books in the future.
