Overview

From the # 1 New York Times and International bestselling author, Jennifer L. Armentrout writing as J. Lynn, comes a richly moving story about heartbreak and guilt, second chances and hope. Full of familiar, fan-favorite characters and no two people more deserving of a happy ending, Fire In You will burn bright beyond the last page...

Jillian Lima's whole world was destroyed in a span of a few hours. The same night her childhood love, Brock 'the Beast' Mitchell, broke her heart, her life was irrevocably altered by the hand of a stranger with a gun. It takes six years to slowly glue together the shattered pieces of her life, but Jillian is finally ready to stop existing in a past full of pain and regret. She takes a job at her father's martial arts Academy and she's going out on her first date since a failed relationship that was more yuck than yum. Jillian is determined to start living.

She just never expected Brock to be a part of her life again. But he's firmly back in her life before she knows it, and not only is he older, he's impossibly more handsome, more teasing and more everything. And when he sees Jillian, he's no longer capable of thinking of her as the little girl who was his shadow growing up or the daughter of the man who gave him a second chance at life. He sees the woman who'd always been there for him, the one person who believed in him no matter what.

Brock knows she's the one he should've made his, and what begins as a tentative friendship quickly turns to red-hot chemistry that sparks a flame that burns brighter than lust. Falling for Brock again risks more than her heart, because when the sorrow-filled and guilt-ridden past resurfaces, and a web of lies threatens to rip them apart, the fallout could lay waste to everything they've fought to build together, and destroy the dreams of those they care most about.

I have read the rest of the series and was excited for this new addition. It was such a let down. Neither character was likeable or well developed, and the plot was very lacking. Nothing like the rest of the books in the series. Not worth a couple dollars.

Jillian’s home was a refuge for Brock Mitchell. A place where he was given a second chance, a place where he found family, a place where he became “Brock, the Beast Mitchell”…a top professional fighter. The day Brock met Jillian’s father changed his life forever. Jillian was Brock’s shadow, always in the wings as the grew into adult hood. Crushing on Brock would have been an understatement, she flat out loved him. One fate-filled night changed it all. Barely surviving a brutal and deadly attack, Brock blames himself for not being there for Jillian while Jillian life was altered forever. Driving them apart, six years is a really long time to avoid each other. Six years later, after much conjoling from her parents, Jillian agrees to come back into the family business, the training gym that was her life before the attack. Little did she know they were thrusting her back into Brock’s path. Smoldering chemistry explodes, when the patient but commanding Brock finally sees what he’s been missing…Jillian! Fire In You is a riveting, heartwarming tale of friendship, love, family and healing. It was a marvelous love story but when you add in Armentrout’s way of connecting characters to her readers, you have a contemporary romance that should not be missed.

So. Good. This is the first book in J. Lynn's Wait for You series that I've read (why? I have no idea, and zero excuses. Every single one is on my TBR) but it worked just fine as a standalone. I'm pretty sure that most if not all of the other series characters made appearances here, so if you've read the others, it'll feel link coming home for Thanksgiving. Which Jillian and Brock actually did at one point, so... ;) Jillian's been in love with Brock since she was eight and he was fourteen, something that just about everyone around them knew but didn't really discuss. She's been his shadow, his best friend, forever--until they weren't any more. But now six years have passed, and Jillian's physically healed from the horrible experience that helped to tear them apart. She's taking a job in the family business, and working with Brock. She can do this. Can't she? I loved watching Jillian as she slowly but surely took her life back into her own hands, and witnessing as Brock did what he could do to get her trust back. These two are so good together, and though they move pretty slowly here, you can see that it's absolutely going to be worth it in the end. And it totally is :) Now, I've got a backlist to plow through... Rating: 4 stars / A- I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

I purposely slowed down my reading speed on this last installment in the awesome Wait for You series. I wasn’t ready for my time in this world to end too quickly. I liked that we caught up with Jillian and Brock and the rest of WFY characters several years down the road after we last saw them in Stephanie and Nick’s novel, Forever with You (Wait for You #5). I wasn’t expecting Jillian to have gone through such a traumatic event, wow! Her world was rocked hard and recovering from something like that can understandably take longer than one would like. I could relate so easily to her fears about her lack of progress in life at twenty-six years of age. She owned it though and found a way to start truly living the life she wanted. I liked her transformation a lot and her mental processing of the 'fire' inside some people, whether it burns bright or burns out or never dies, was really deep. I wondered if Brock really had been clueless all along about the torch his Jillybean, as he so affectionately nicknamed Jillian, carried for him. I loved Brock's honesty once he started to open up to Jillian. He came clean and was determined to not let her insecurities derail what they were developing together. After six years with no direct contact, a career change for them both forced them to reassess and evaluate what happened in the past and what they could mean to each other now as mature adults with their age difference no longer a factor. I loved that their new relationship dynamic developed over a bit time and wasn’t rushed. And I'm just a big softie when it comes to romances between two characters who grew up together and then later really fall hard into mature love. Writing style: Jillian’s POV (1st person) Cover love: Oh. My. Goodness. I love it so freaking much! Everything about it – the cover models chosen, their positioning, color scheme – is simply perfect. All of the covers in the Wait for You series have been so fitting and well done, but this one is now my new favorite. It's gorgeous! A few of my favorite declaration scenes: “Do you…do you love me?” “I love you…” He lowered his forehead to mine, and a shudder rolled through me. “I love you like I wish I allowed myself to when we were younger. I love you because you’re not just sweet but you’re kind. I love you because you have this fire in you that you don’t even recognize, but I do. You’re strong and you’re a survivor.” *** “There is not a single part of how I love you that has anything to do with guilt.” He dragged his thumbs along my cheeks, catching another tear. “And I’m in love with you and I’ve never felt this way for anyone. You’re my first,” he said, pressing his lips to the deep scar in my left cheek. “You will be my only.” *** “I love you,” I said to him, cupping his cheeks and dragging his gaze to mine. “I will never stop loving you.” “You’ve never stopped.” Then there were no words. All communication was through lips and teeth, tongue and hands. *** I'm so glad that I did an entire WFY series reread prior to starting this great series ending novel. I fell for all of the couples and supporting characters like Katie all over again. I’ll truly miss this group of characters tons.

I was really looking forward to this book and I usually like her stuff. But this book just didn't do it for me. I just found the idea of after all those years she still was in love with somebody who didn't have the time of day for and took advantage of her. That just doesn't sound very healthy. I can appreciate Brock's character, but from a realistic standpoint waiting that long just doesn't make any sense. Additionally, there were a couple of grammar errors that kind of stood out in my mind. I know romance can be fantastical but at least the character's motivation has to make sense and I just don't feel like it was fully fleshed-out to do that.

I disagree with the previous review. Paul was Jillian's fight. I feel like that situation was handled perfectly. That was her finding her 'fire'. I wanna hear about these two again in the future.

Jillian was just eight years old when Brock came into her life. Taken under her father's wing as a troubled fourteen year old boy, Brock seemed like the only one to really see Jillian. She became his shadow as they became best friends. As Jillian matured she waited for the day that Brock would see her as more than a little sister or a friend. Just when she was certain that day had finally come, tragedy strikes and changes Jillian forever. Six years have passed and Jillian is living a quiet life, one with out risks - and without Brock. All her dreams and goals were put on hold or set aside six years ago but she's finally ready to make a fresh start. Quitting her boring job at a insurance company and taking a position at Lima Academy, a successful MMA training facility owned by her father, is a step in the right direction. The Academy is her father's legacy and has always been a part of her life. What she doesn't expect is Brock Mitchell, now the general manager at the Academy, back in her life. Not only is he now her boss but he also seems determined to regain the friendship that was abandoned years ago. Friendship... and even more. It was so easy to feel for Jillian. Jennifer L. Armentrout is a master at creating down to earth, relatable characters and Jillian was no exception. Her background was revealed slowly with flashbacks interspersed throughout the first half of the book and it was the perfect way to get to know Jillian while slowly learning what the event was in the past that made her so self-conscious and intent on keeping others at arm's length. Brock was a total alpha force to be reckoned with and it was impossible not to fall for his cockiness and charm - and his won't-take-no-for-an-answer attitude when it came to Jillian. Even though he'd achieved great success as an MMA fighter, he had his own troubled past to contend with. I loved the respect and loyalty he had for Jillian's father and the confidence and belief he had in Jillian. The chemistry between these two was off the charts and I loved watching as they came together. Jillian had a lot to work through considering her past had left scars both physical and emotional and I appreciated her strength as she pushed herself to take chances and really start living again. Whether you have followed this series from the very beginning or choose to read Fire In You as a stand alone novel, you're sure two fall in love with these characters and their story as much as I did.

“Falling for Brock had been a risk. Love was a risk no matter what, and I had been brave–dumb and blind–but brave. When it came to Brock, I dove headfirst and didn’t come up for air.” “For a few brief seconds, there was no past, no yesterday and no tomorrow. There was just now, just Brock and me in this car, his thumb tracing invisible lines over my hand.” “Living is all about taking risks. Yes. Living was taking risks. Living was putting yourself out there, sometimes jumping without a safety net. Brock would catch me. I didn’t doubt that.” I have to say I really, really enjoyed this book. It has been quite a while since I’ve read something by this author and reading this book quickly reminded me why I love this series so much. Fire in You is the 6th book in the Wait for You series, and while it is part of an interconnected series, I do believe that it can be read and enjoyed as a stand-alone. Fire in You follows the story of Brock and Jillian. Jillian has always been in love with Brock. Despite their age differences, the two have always been close. Unfortunately for Jillian, Brock has never seen her as more than just a little sister type. It’s not until Jillian is in her 20’s that she finally gets the courage to try and act on her feelings for Brock. However, fate had other plans for her that fateful night. That fateful night changed Jillian forever. Now, many years later, Brock and Jillian are brought back together. Brock knows that’s he’s made mistakes and wants nothing more than a second chance with Jillian. But, things have changed. Jillian is not the same girl that he once remembered and Brock has a lot to make up for. Will Jillian and Brock get the second chance they both desperately want?? Fire in You was a fantastic read from start to finish. I am such a sucker for a good angsty second chance romance and Fire in You does not disappoint at all. From the moment I met Jillian, I was sucked into her story. I wanted desperately to find out what happened to her and Brock. And the more I read, the deeper I fell. Brock and Jillian had amazing and I mean amazing chemistry. It just oozed off of the two of them and I could not get enough. I was on pins and needles waiting to see what would happen with them and I loved every heart pulling, angst filled, swoon-worthy moment. Fire in You gave me everything I wanted, needed and then some. The characters were so easy to connect and fall in love with. The story-line captivated and sucked me in. I devoured this book easily in one sitting and did not want to put it down. I loved getting to visit and follow up with old friends again. This book in a way felt like coming home. I missed this series and I missed the characters and fell in love with some new ones along the way. Brock and Jillian’s story was an amazing second chance romance that gave me so many feels and left me with the biggest smile on my face.

Jen has officially done it again. I honestly never get tired of reading her books and I always find myself going back for more. I always get sucked into her stories, getting to know the characters on what feels like a personal level. Jillian Lima has been in love with Brock Mitchell since the day she met him. Brock joined Jillian's family after he attempted to rob her father. Her father took Brock under his wing and treated him like a son. He saw potential in Brock as a mixed martial arts fighter. After a night that leaves Jillian with a broken heart and almost dead, it take her six years to cope. Six years of not speaking to Brock. Jillian is ready to start her life again when she finally takes the job her father offered her at his MMA Academy. Little does she know, Brock is her boss. When she finds this out, she's angry and confused. Brock wants to patch things up but Jillian is hesitant to fall for him again. Her past, and lies she's not sure she believes, threaten to break Jillian just as things start going her way again. Will Jillian and Brock be able to make it through together? Jillian first sees Brock when she literally bumps into him while she's on a date and when she finds out he's her boss, she doesn't know what to think. She cant possibly quit just because she doesn't want anything to do with Brock at the moment. But Brock sees it as second chance. Brock is flirting endlessly with Jillian, taking her out to lunch, and bringing her Starbucks every morning (man do I wish I had someone bringing me Starbucks every morning). As the flirting goes on, and they finally talk about that night, it turns into a spark that ignites a flame between them. Jenn did an amazing job with this book and I couldn't put it down, constantly turning the pages to see what happened next. I'm excited for this book to hit shelves and for everyone to get to enjoy the story behind Brock and Jillian as they ignite a fire in each other.

I really enjoyed Fire in You a lot! It's no secret that I'm a huge Jennifer L. Armentrout fan, so of course I was excited to read her next new book. I'm especially a fan of this Wait for Me series though and this book was definitely another great addition. Fire in You is the story of Jillian and Brock. Jillian was in love with Brock for years as they grew up together. However, the night he broke her heart, was also the same night a stranger with a gun changed her life. It's been six years since Jillian has spoken to Brock and she is surprised when he shows up back in her life again. Jillian was a well developed character. I really liked her story a lot and watching her grow. I loved that she decided that it was time to change and start living more for herself. Making those changes and putting herself out there wasn't always easy for her, but I admired the way she didn't give up. There was even one specific scene in the end that made me want to stand up and cheer for her. I also loved the relationship that Jillian shared with her family. It was clear how much her large family loved each other and the pride that Jillian took in working at her father's martial arts academy. Brock was a well developed character too. I really enjoyed how the relationship between Brock and Jillian developed as well. They share a complicated past and cared very deeply for each other. However, they also carried the burden of what happened to Jillian that night six years ago. I really liked getting to know Brock better though and how he came to be such an important part of Jillian's life when they were both young. It was clear how much he loved and respected her family as well. I also loved seeing many familiar characters from the previous books in this series again. It's always fun to see what is happening in their lives and catch up with them in a sense. Armentrout has truly done a great job with connecting all of these characters to each other. The plot was paced well and like with most of Armentrout's books, I couldn't put this one down. There was a good balance of drama and romance. I especially liked that the romance in this book took the time to develop because it made it that much more realistic. I also loved that there was some humor in this story as well. The love/hate relationship between Jillian and her cat Rhage was especially funny. Overall, I really enjoyed Fire in You a lot! I definitely recommend picking this one up if you're a fan of this series already, a fan of any of Armentrout's books, or even just a fan of contemporary romance books. *An advanced reader's copy of this book was provided by the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

A feel-good second-chances love story full of hope and heart. This is the last book in Jennifer's Wait for You series so I was feeling quite nostalgic reading it. Even though I prefer her YA and NA paranormal books to her other work, I have really enjoyed this series and come to love all the couples - they are like long-lost friends at this stage. One of the aspects I adored about this book was how much the other couples featured, especially Cam and Avery who are my all time fav couple. But we also got to see everyone else and they are all happily married and with kids or with kids on the way. It gave me tons of warm and cozy feelings to see everyone in such a good place. I warmed to Jillian pretty much straight away - she has been through so much but she's a fighter and she's determined to reclaim the life she always wanted despite the tragedy and trauma of her past. Finally facing up to her legacy, she returns to the Lima Academy only to discover that Brock is back on the scene and there's no escaping him. He has been the love of her life since she was nine but he has hurt her in the past and she has deliberately kept her distance from him since the fateful night that tore them apart. Brock has always had a soft spot for Jilly although he acknowledges that he has failed her and let her down. Now, he wants a chance to make that up to her and to prove to her that they truly belong together. This was quite a slow-burning build up to their relationship but it was really sweet and full of humor and warmth and love. I adored it. I did feel like it lacked a little depth in terms of plot and that's the only reason why this is a four-star rather than five-star review, however, I still think it was a great read and a very fitting end to a fantastic series. When I pick up a JLA book, I always know I'm in for a good time and this reading experience was no different. Highly Recommended.

Fire In You was the perfect conclusion to the Wait For You Series! Watching Jillian and Brock's story unfold reminded me yet again why Jennifer Armentrout is my favorite author. You see she writes these characters that embed themselves deeply into my heart. I feel every single emotion they take on, and I become completely invested into their lives. And Brock and Jillian did just that. The chemistry between them was insanely seductive and their story continually pulled at my heartstrings. You must meet them! Jillian Lima has known Brock 'the Beast' Mitchell since she was eight years old. Her father took in a fourteen year old Brock and helped him straighten out his life. They became the best of friends, and Jillian was always Brock's little shadow. She adored and loved him with her whole heart, until the night he shattered it and then her life was ripped apart by a gunman. We start the story six years after that horrific night, and Jillian is finally ready to start living her life again. She accepts a job at her father's company, and even agrees to go out on a double date with Cam and Avery. BTW you get to see ALL of the people from the previous books, and yes it was beyond amazing seeing where they all were in their lives! But Jillian isn't prepared for Brock to come back into her life. He isn't part of her plan for living again, and she truly isn't ready to face him or her past. From the moment Brock walked back into Jillian's life and crowded her in that hall, I was a goner. Brock makes you want to fan your face, laugh and melt into a puddle while you have a goofy grin on your face. Okay maybe that's just me, but he's seductive, charming and I desperately wanted him on every single page of this book. With his take charge attitude and an alpha personality he knows exactly how to push Jillian outside of her comfort zone. Especially when he would say the right things, or touch her oh so perfectly. Her traitorous body loved it, while her mind fought it. Yet Jillian isn't the quiet little girl he once knew . She stands up for herself at times, and it impressed not only me but Brock too. Yet Jillian still feels hindered. She has nightmares and she's self-conscious about the way surgery changed her features because of that night six years ago. I felt not only her frustration but her nervousness and at times her fear. I just wanted to give her a huge hug and make her understand that she was enough. To tell her to have faith in herself and see how wonderful she was. But as the story progressed, I became so proud of how much she grew. And for how much strength she found in herself. While I loved watching Jillian and Brock in the present....you have to read the restaurant scenes because I can't stop laughing every time I think about those times..., we also got to peak into moments from their past. Whether it was a flashback to the night where everything went horrifically wrong or to a story from when they were much younger, we got to see their whole relationship. We fully understood what they meant to each other. It made perfect sense why the story proceeded in the way that it did. Oh my gosh, I could go on and on because I loved every part of this story but I'll let you discover the rest for yourself! Just know that I laughed, I cried and I fell madly in love with Fire In You! Jillian and Brock completely captured my heart and I promise you'll fall hard for their story too. *ARC kindly provided by Inkslinger in exchange for an honest revie

4.5 Stars The Wait for You Series by Jennifer Armentrout/J. Lynn has been one that I've thoughly enjoyed, and this last book, Fire in You, does not dissapoint. After suffering a terrible tragedy, Jillian Lima has been a recluse of sorts. Scarred by her trauma, she has been kind of living life on the outside looking in, but not really participating. Yes, a part of that is because of the scars she has suffered on the outside, scars which have long since healed. Then, there are the scars on the inside, those caused by the man who broke her heart, who was also her best friend. Unfortunately, those scars have seemed to heal only to be ripped open again time and time again. Now 6 years later, Jillian is ready to start trying to live again, taking a job at her Father's company, vowing to once again enter the land of the living and put the past along with all that it entails behind her.....that is until she sees "HIM" again. Jillian is thrown for another loop when she shows up for her first day at work only to find out that her boss is the man she is trying to move on from.....Brock Mitchell himself, in the flesh, hotter than hot, and more beautiful than she could ever imagine. Brock Mitchell has realized the mistakes he's made, especially those regarding Jillian, and he's ready to make things right. He's also missed his best friend, the girl he has desperately tried to think of as a little sister, only Jillian Lima is not so little anymore. Brock also has to admit that he hasn't thought of her as a sister for a long time, and is determined to have her back, even if he can only have her as a friend. Brock is older now, more mature, and realizes the mistakes he's made, putting 6 years of mistakes and the person he made them with behind him, ready for a fresh start. Fire in You is their story, a story of redemption, of friendship and love lost, then found again, of trust lost and trust regained, and of a passion that burns brighter and hotter than a wildfire. I loved Brock and Jillian's story, and I enjoyed getting to see the other characters from the previous novels in the series make an appearance as well. The only thing I would have liked is for it to go on a little longer - didn't want to see it end just yet, though it did end well, That said, Fire in You was wonderful and definitely one fans of the series, fans of the author, and contemporary fans in general will most definitely want to check out.
