This really could have been a great story! Then there's a love triangle. This story had it all--kickass heroine, vampires, shapeshifters, action, suspense, great characters--and then ruined because of trying to add a love triangle romance into it. I was so excited when I started this book. It was so good and it was the first of a series which was even better. Halfway or so through my excitement turned to disappointment and frustration! There are so many books out there in the romance genre and I avoid them all. They don't appeal to me. I love supernatural, fantasy, science fiction, and urban fantasy. While I am not opposed to romance in any story, the romances that are angst-ridden, I'm not good for you and above all else, love triangles make my teeth hurt! Sorry to all you die-hard romance fans because no criticism to you--we like what we like. Unfortunately to the author I didn't finish the book and I won't be getting any more of the series. I will keep looking for other stories that fit to my liking.
