One of four books in the "Sprouts" series, designed to help young children "gain knowledge and understanding of the world around them," this entry helps preschoolers deal with the first visit to a dentist. An eye-catching layout, color photos and brief text combine to put the reader at ease from the first step into the waiting room to meeting the dentist, to the checkup, the teeth brushing and so on. As the photos follow a young girl through the process, labels identify the many strange tools and gadgets encountered in a dental office. Although it is an attempt at diversity, placing a black turban on the dentist may lead some children to think it is part of the uniform. The only step left out of the process is paying for the visit...an important one. A glossary and index are included. 2004, Raintree, Ages 4 to 7.
