Overview

Fish of Souls by Gary Williams

In Fish of Souls, revenge carries through the centuries with undaunted bitterness. When two men, Scott Seymour and Curt Lockes, find the skeleton of a bizarre fish inside the 300-year-old Spanish fort in St. Augustine, Florida, they inadvertently start a tumultuous chain of events. Premonitions, that at first seem trivial, are woven into an intricate plot where varying motivations drive desires. After a series of heinous murders along the Northeast Florida shore, the men, along with Professor Marvin Sellon, discover the creature's link to the past; including its role in one of the most prominent accounts in the Old Testament and its involvement with the French Huguenots and the Spanish Conquistadors in the sixteenth century as the two sides struggled as bitter enemies to gain a foothold in the New World. Regrettably, with the amazing knowledge of the fish's origin, the truth becomes clear: the archeological and theological significance of the amazing find can not begin to offset the horror that its misguided use brings. Fish of Souls successfully blends historical settings with present day events and incorporates suspense with action and bold adventure.

Watch out Koonz! Gary is right behind you with words that turn the pages of his novels. Gary's stories brings back memories of North Florida with an added twist of adventure. I can almost believe his characters are real and waiting for the next adventure. The way Gary adds all the elements of the area, hurricanes, humidity, and the actual names of the areas are accurate.

This book is a must read for anyone who enjoys the combination of mystery, supernatural and humor. The author has successfully blended all of these to create a 'can't put down' read. If you have never been to historic St. Augustine in Florida do not worry, Mr. Williams takes you there with vivid imagery and description!

From the very first pages you read in Fish of Souls you know you are in for a very bizarre roller-coaster of creepy ghouls and wry humoured heros!! What I did not expect was just how much the plot would draw me in and lead me through St Augustine history of French and Spanish soldiers come to life and tie it all in to a modern day setting with a natural disaster looming. The main characters are not only well drawn, but real enough to imagine you know them. The descriptions of the locations place you in the scene, but never slow the action. And the ghouls....EEEWWWWW!!!!....Positively nasty!!! A wonderful read !! Can't wait for the next installment !!!

A masterful tale of intrigue and suspense. Mr. Williams intricately weaves North Florida history, Biblical theory and sinister fiction. Tantilizing throughout, it left me craving the next chapter. A must read for anyone who enjoys suspense, horror and a good laugh (great dialogue!). I eagerly await his next work.

As a lover of St. Augustine and its history, I can relate to the story and the events and locations of each....the cemetary and the Fort will never be the same for me...now I will look behind my shoulder for...well, I don't want to tell the story. Absolutely enthralling and keeps you sitting on the edge of your chair... do not read late at night or by yourself. Can't wait for a followup.

When I first began reading the pages of "Fish of Souls" the focus and direction were not completely clear to me. As the story unfolded with mystery, historical secrets, and even humor, it all began to come together. As a reader I became hooked and couldn't imagine how it would all resolve. I recommend this book, especially to readers with a high interest in history and historical landmarks.

Fish of Souls is a very creative story. It combines history of the early French and Spanish explorers in North America with one of the most celebrated events in the Old Testament and brings it all into the present. With revenge as the motivation. two men are compelled to find out the cause behind a series of strange murders along the shore. The main characters are likable, fun, and adventurous. And basing the story in St. Augustine, Florida, (with its historical landmarks) provide unique settings for the ordeal. Fish of Souls was one of those books that after several chapters, I literally couldn't put it down. In many ways the story is like "Raiders of the Lost Ark" but is different enough that it stands on its own. I could easily see (and hope I do someday!) this being made into a movie. For an unknown writer (at least I've never heard of Gary Williams) this was a refreshing, thrilling and frightening ride.
