Fit for the Soul began as a series of journal entries in the time of receiving the news of having stage three colon cancer at the age of 29. These pages follow Samantha Alday on her journey through cancer—from surgery to having chemotherapy, to recovery. It is about a path toward not only physical but spiritual health. From prayer from family, friends and loved ones, back and forth from insecurity and fear of death, it follows the path of uncertainty in knowing God's plan for her life but also of growing in faith and trusting Him regardless of what that plan would be.
This journey takes place over the span of ten years, between cancer diagnosis, recovery and beyond. From diagnosis in her twenties through discovering her own path to healthy living in her forties, Sam shares her struggle of how she tried to eat right but always floundered, never really having a realistic plan to stick to. Each new "thing" left her feeling guilty or afraid of eating the wrong thing and—when she couldn't keep up—feeling like a failure. It was only after turning 40 that she gained clarity and direction on how to eat for better health and live without counting points, calories, or following crazy rules she could never keep.
Inside this book, you'll also learn how Sam approaches dieting without dieting, living in the moment, knowing what we can and can't do, and allowing ourselves the struggle of healthy living itself, all in the grace of knowing God is there on good days and bad. Written as a journal, prayer book and a guide, Fit for the Soul is a call and answer to realizing who we are in Christ and who He created us to be.
