If you are a fan of Ursula Hegi's writing, you will enjoy the book, although it was a short read. Because her writing is so beautiful and her characters so compelling, I was disappointed it was not longer, but nevertheless I really enjoyed the book. No one puts more thought into the characters. After reading the books, I reflect heavily on my German heritage and want to go spend time in Germany and get to know the people. Recommended!

Ursula Hegi's voice is lyrical; her observations and descriptions spot on. She captures the voice of the young teen narrator and tells stories that on the surface may seem mundane but in reality carry the most power. Highly recommended.

This book is advertised as a novel, but it is really a collection of short stories that have a common thread. In the end, the reader can see how all the stories led the reader to this moment, but the reader has arrived here in a sort of disjointed journey. However, the book is enjoyable and stories light-hearted enough to make it a quick, easy, and enjoyable read.
