The writer and the illustrator together present a touching story of family, love happiness singing your own song.
Paging through this book, you can practically HEAR the enchanting singing that is central to the story, which was wonderfully-written by Laura Lacamara and majestically illustrated by Yuyi Morales! ! ! I love the way the relationships develop, with the action centering around a mother of two young children, told from the point of view of a 7 year old girl. All the magic takes place on a Caribbean island, lush with forests and mango trees. You owe it to yourself and your family to pick up this treasure! ! ! !
This is a lovely book about the happiness of the inner soul and how music can bring joy to our world. The spirit/soul of a person can bring light to those around them. This book is written in both English and Spanish and would be a lovely read aloud in a classroom with bilingual students. The illustrations are phenomenal and through the vibrant colors one can see the happiness pouring back into the bodies of the characters. I love this!
